The first night of competition saw:

S. St. Paul edged Chisago Lakes 2-1. 19 contestants saw this one coming with Knight7 correctly predicting the score.

Cretin-Derham Hall and Wayzata tied 1-1, with Spars46 correctly predicting this outcome. This was the most hotly contested game of the week, so it only makes sense that it ended in a tie.

Chaska/Chanhassen nipped Mound Westonka 3-2. All of us were correct in result, but no correct scores.

Breck defeated Orono 5-1. Again, all predictors were correct, with MNHockeyFan, rascalbrock, The Bone, and Maverick2000 also hitting the correct score.

Thief River Falls trounced East Grand Forks 7-2 with 18 of our panel correctly predicting the outcome, but nobody saw that score coming.

In the final game of the evening, Maple Grove bested Champlin Park 4-1. All but one of our esteemed panel foresaw the correct outcome with MNHockeyFan, Nordic, and The Bone also nailing the correct score.

By virtue of correctly picking 5 out of 6 games plus 2 correct scores, MNHockeyFan finds himself sitting alone in the lead after the first day. Plenty of games to go as well as our Biggest Game of the Week, so there are opportunists aplenty should MNHockeyFan stumble. Only one game tomorrow night, but then a full slate of games Friday and Saturday.

Standings are:

7 MNHockeyFan
6 Knight7, Nordic, spars46, The Bone, 36Guy
5 13 others
4 1 other
3 1 other

A rarity, and I don't want to steal MNHockeyFan's thunder, but Conventional Wisdom is sitting pretty with 8 points. It's very uncommon for this to occur, but perhaps our combined predictive power is beginning to reach previously unseen heights?

I'm just happy to not be one of the "others" for a change! ;)

I have been one of the "others" all year. The Wolfman sucks at picking games and scores.

And some thought that the Lake conference was dead. Minnetonka rebounded from last week's upset loss and corralled the Mounds View Mustangs 7-0. Norby picked up a hat trick to lead the Skippers' charge.

All but two of our panelists got this one right, but no one was close to the score. Only the slightest change to our leaderboard, heading into the weekend with 9 games remaining.

8 MNHockeyFan
7 Nordic, spars46, The Bone
6 14 others
5 2 others
4 1 other

P.S. The Wolfman is still mathematically alive.

An interesting evening with some close games and unexpected results and quite a few penalties thrown in for good measure.

In our first game of the evening, Eden Prairie and Thief River Falls tied 1-1. Although one of our contestants predicted a TRF victory, no one predicted a tie.

Mound Westonka edged Mankato East 2-1 after falling behind 1-0. Our panel was unanimous in this prediction, but no one nailed the correct score.

In the BGotW, Edina scored with under 30 seconds remaining to nip Hill-Murray 4-3. This was an upset according to most of our panel, with only 6 predicting a Hornets victory. Sinbin was fortunate in predicting the correct score and picking up the extra bonus point. I'll have to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow.

In the one game this evening that was not close, Dodge County dismantled Orono 7-0. All 21 predictors were correct and kudos to Otter for predicting that score.

In the final game of the evening, Blake doubled up Proctor/Hermantown 4-2 after P/H held a 2-1 lead midway through the second period. All but one of us were correct in this outcome while Nordic and nu2hockey also foresaw the correct score.

With one day and four games remaining, we have some changes on the leaderboard:

12 sinbin
11 MNHockeyFan, Nordic, The Bone
10 hockeybozo, hugo_lucas, spars46, wolfman
9 12 others
7 1 other

Most of tomorrow's game are one-sided, so correct scores will likely determine the winner(s). And, yes, wolfman is still very mathematically alive. Good luck to all.

For the final four games of the week, we saw:

Chaska/Chanhassen pummeled New Ulm 10-1, Passolt with the hat trick. While all 21 respondents predicted the outcome, no one predicted the C/C 10-spot.

Maple Grove blanked Totino-Grace 4-0. Again, the prediction was unanimous and panpan11 and rascalbrock also nailed the score.

In a game that was much closer than almost all of our panelists predicted, Eden Prairie needed two 3rd-period goals to rally past East Grand Forks 3-2. Knight7 clearly had an inkling about this one as he gallantly predicted the correct score.

In the final game of the evening, Elk River/Zimmerman nipped Champlin Park in overtime 3-2. 17 panelists foresaw this outcome while massalsa, sinbin, and spars46 also got the score.

Final results for Week 4 are:

17 sinbin
16 Conventional Wisdom
15 MNHockeyFan, Nordic, spars46, The Bone
14 hockeybozo, hugo_lucas, Knight7, panpan111, rascalbrock, wolfman
13 5 others
12 5 others

Week 5 games are now available on a separate thread. Good luck to all.
