Luverne vs. SPA
We were at Drake yesterday to check out top Freshmen Jaxon Nelson and Devlin McCabe. Here is a game story about the result. Two very good Class A teams.

Re: Luverne
You give away three goals you don't win hockey games.
Pretty even game could of gone either way. Bottom line mistakes in the third cost the cards the game yesterday. Two evenly matched teams. Hats off to both teams.

Not an even game at all. SPA out shot Luverne by more than twice as much! and almost had 2-3 more goals without the refs discretion.Whiner33 wrote:You give away three goals you don't win hockey games.

SPA had five quality chances in the house..Windmill31 wrote:Not an even game at all. SPA out shot Luverne by more than twice as much! and almost had 2-3 more goals without the refs discretion.Whiner33 wrote:You give away three goals you don't win hockey games.

Not sure what game you watched?
Can't help your guy couldn't add the shots on goal to the right side...

Re: Luverne
The shots on goal were not accurately recorded on the scoreboard. Thats a fact. That fact doesnt change the outcome of the game, but it may change the perception that SPA should have won 10-2 or whatever this guy is trying to make it sound like.elliott70 wrote:Quit whining....Whiner33 wrote:SPA had five quality chances in the house..Windmill31 wrote: Not an even game at all. Sorry, did not mean to make it sound like SPA should have won by more. Just trying to say that it was not as simple as anyone's game. thank you for the unbias clarification.notTONIGHT wrote:The shots on goal were not accurately recorded on the scoreboard. Thats a fact. 'give away'? How did the Cards 'give away' 3 goals?

Have it on pretty good authority that the SOG were not accurate and 2, probably 3 of the SPA goals were the result of bad decisions, fall downs, or positioning problems by Luverne. That does not take away that fact that SPA converted on those opportunities and Luverne did not mount enough offensive pressure. SPA was quick and connected on their passes where Luverne did not. End of the regular season undefeated streak. And the world is still spinning. Who knew! A lot of season left.
When you have young guys trying to stand in and step up this is what happens at times. SPA is a very good hockey team that skates well and moves the puck nicely.hawkenjonny wrote:Have it on pretty good authority that the SOG were not accurate and 2, probably 3 of the SPA goals were the result of bad decisions, fall downs, or positioning problems by Luverne. Lots of time left in the season. Wish the cards could play these type of teams on a regular basis. Then lots of these bad habits would disappear. The Cards have a great coaching staff and will get the cards back and going.
Once again hats off to both teams. And see you boys next year!
What makes 'pretty good authority' better than the official scorekeeper.hawkenjonny wrote:Have it on pretty good authority that the SOG were not accurate and 2, probably 3 of the SPA goals were the result of bad decisions, fall downs, or positioning problems by Luverne. I have often been at games where I have thought there have been shots recorded when I have not seen them or not recorded when I have seen them. But having worked in the off-ice officials box I know that recording of these on a clock is not always timely.
Not that it makes a difference, the score is what counts. To determine how well the game was played you pretty much need to be there and as I also have seen, those reports are always somewhat suspicious. Just as witnesses of a car accident give you different accounts of what they 'saw'.
So I think I am going with the bottom line, the score. SPA is the better team by about, what, say 3 goals.
I know Card faithful have taken grief over the 'easy' schedule.Whiner33 wrote: Lots of time left in the season. Wish the cards could play these type of teams on a regular basis.
But things cycle around. At some point I believe 3A will have 3 or 4 top 25 teams.
I have known youth organizations and high schools that would refuse to play against the 'weak' teams. But now they relish the fact that they can play games closer to home against 'good competition'.
The Cards schedule is fine.
And by season end people from all over the state will be checking the box score to see if the Cards can repeat or if Hutch or New Ulm or Marshall will step up. And the same people will be saying why waste a spot at state for Chisago or Princeton or the like from 5A.
Roll Cards Roll and Hutch and New Ulm and every other high school team.
They help make our long winter fun.

So.....they gave away 3 goals? Isn't that how teams usually score, because mistakes are made? If not, every game would be 0-0.....I know the response will be, well we made some uncharacteristic mistakes. Maybe that's because SPA's speed and skill forced them to be uncomfortable, and the kids couldn't handle the higher level of play? Just a thought.
Even without the name we could deduce that from your posts.Whiner33 wrote:I'm just a whinerelliott70 wrote:I know Card faithful have taken grief over the 'easy' schedule.Whiner33 wrote: Lots of time left in the season. Wish the cards could play these type of teams on a regular basis.

Quite possibly. But also take into account that there is a difference between goals scored due to nice puck movement and set up in the offensive zone and opportunistic goals scored on obvious errors by the other team. Only 2 of the SPA goals were really a result of the former. The same could also be said of the 2 Luverne scored from what I hear. A weird turnover at SPA net and a situation where a good stickhandler got by a defenseman. Lessons to be learned on both sides.BP wrote:So.....they gave away 3 goals?
