HM forechecked them to death and played most of the even-strength game in the Mahtomedi zone.....Without Swanson and a rash of HM penalties, this game could have easily been 10-1.
Game got particularly sloppy and chippy in the late 1st period and into the 2nd....The bright spot for the Zephyrs, besides their goaltending, is that they don't take any crap off of anyome.
Armchair coaching note: I'd have called time out after HM made it 3-1...The body language of the Zephyrs players was that of a team throwing in the towel, with still 7:00 remaining.
A special low-rent-of-the-evening award goes to HM's Jake Witt, for hanging on the glass in taunting of the Mahtomedi student section, after tying the score at 1-1.
If Mahtomedi is half of what they're hyped up to be, the rematch of this one should be good.

Agree that Jake Wittl was an idiot. Put your head down and go fist bump with your bench. There were 33 minutes left to play and it was 1-1. Nothing was won yet. He deserved the penalty.
I have seen all 3 Aldrich games and am starting to really like this HM team. Mitch Slattery's graduation and Joey Anderson going to NTDP may be the best thing to happen to this bunch. They have no superstars. They are now a defensive-minded, hard working, pass first and balanced team. The 4 big D-men are really good and can score, especially Jacob Olson. Sean Wendlandt looks pretty good in goal. He's a big kid that looked slow last year. We'll know more after he faces LN, Edina and other top teams in the next few weeks.
Pre-season I thought HM would not be a top 10 team. So far they belong in that #3 spot that Karl has then in.
