Yes we can all agree women's hockey is not the cash cow a men's program may be. But almost every athletic program (at UMD or anywhere else) is not making money! They exist for a host of other reasons. Honestly, other than maybe football, basketball, hockey (all men's of course) which other college sports make $$? That's a terrible argument against the decision to replace this coach.

Not hardly? Every interview Shannon has given has the words "my attorney" in it! Not taking sides, I think Shannon got the shaft and it was handled poorly. You think she's going to sue them for "mishandling" how they decided not to renew her contract? Everyone talks about suing when they get fired, it's human nature. Not sure if the AD made a mistake in the firing/letting go, but he certainly did make a mistake with the timing. I would imagine he wants to keep his job, so he and the admin at large will be certain they don't violate any Title IX regs. That would be expensive for all concerned, both for careers and the University's pocketbook.

Correct...Bottom line is $$! So many qualified candidates (with a little different style) as assistants within the WCHA that could could be hired at less than half of what she is currently paid. Program could use a shot in the arm and Coach Fabian, Schuler, Johnson or the recently fired from UMD..McDonald would be a great place to start.JohnnyBuck wrote:Sounds like the timing had to do with a 6 month notice in her contract. If this is accurate, then apparently Coach Miller hasn't been able to take as many recruiting trips to Europe as was previously the case, which may in part explain the drop in the talent level of some of her recruits as well as the difficulty some of them have had getting accepted by the school's admissions department. It also sounds like she had a special relationship with the previous chancellor (Kathryn Martin), one that no longer exists with the new chancellor (Lendley Black).
