Wayzata
Word on the street is there is are some "issues" at Wayzata. From what I've heard, junior defenseman and National Camp invite Tristan Moss has quit the team and headed to a AAA team to finish out the season after being moved down to JV.
And while on the topic of wayzata, heard Zimmer is out for quite awhile with back issues. Obviously he is a huge part of their team and it will be interesting to see how they do with out him against some higher competition.

Interested in the latest on this rumor. Not sure who they would move up from JV in his place but lets be real and not kid ourselves that being named a alternate to NY thru the 'selects' mystery process means as much as you make it out to be. The Trojans will be just fine and can win even without Zimmer. Solid all around group with good tender makes them a top 3 or 4 team in the state IMO.

Zimmer hurt his back in their game against Eagan.
No clue when he will return.
Moss went to Phoenix Jr. Coyotes to join another Wayzata kid who left before tryouts. Both sets of parents are hoping to extend their hockey careers.
Moss was replaced by a Sophmore. Not sure if it was going to be a permanate demotion??....I guess no one will ever know. Good parenting or bad coaching...My hat goes off to the coach as I am sure he was only trying to motivate the kid. This will come back to haunt him and future coaches beware.

Losing Zimmer will hurt, appreciate further updates when anyone hears them.
Comments on loss of Moss? I personally thought he had a good start in first few games I saw, (but frankly havent been on top of his situation since then). I had him towards bottom of my own top 50 AA returning junior list this year , , whereas I notice Dilks SBN did not even have him in top 100 in attached list

For Moss to walk from the team because of a little adversity makes me believe that there were probably other issues with him and his teammates...The team is probably better off. I heard Wayzata also lost Paterson to a broken back and Nelson is still recovering from having surgery on both his knees in the off season. Wayzata still looks to have a lot of fire power.
After talking to some more people I've gotten a little more information... Paterson and Nelson are fully healthy. Paterson is cleared for contact and skating full gear. Zimmer has a "bulging disk" from a cross check against Eagan, skating but not full gear. Also, sophomore Jack Carlson has moved up in replacement of Moss. Trojans roll 4 lines pretty well and have a set of about 4 swing line players they like to use. Probably the second deepest program in the state so that 1 long term injury shouldn't be an issue.
Personally, I am very excited about the matchup between wayzata and lakeville north later this month. Schilling vs. Edquist. Mcneely, Sadek, Altavilla vs. Stevens, Sorensen, Moelk. Poehlings vs. Senden, Dingmann, Duma. Should be a very fun game to watch.

Mes thinks if he was rostered with another team during the MSHSL season he is now ineligible for the remainder of the year. The only exception is a US National team where a HS kid can leave his HS team and later come back. Seems like a done deal with somebody else maybe wanting to recycle his sweater number.

bemused- explain what you mean about two sides to the story and penalties.bemused wrote:He played 12/29 for Phoenix U16 team according to pointstreak..after watching their games and the number of penalties they take I think there might be two sides to the story..WestMetro wrote:or did wayzata forget to update program roster?
I was at the game against STA and they do play a physical/ on the edge brand of hockey. Their coach took a bench minor with 3 minutes left in a tie game to put STA on a 5 on 3. STA scored about a minute later. The call he was arguing was a roughing call I think. It must have been the timing of the call he was arguing because it certainly could have been a head shot or charging etc. tough to keep your kids under control when this is the example.

He played the 1st period. He didn't see any action after period 1. He took a penalty at the end of 1st, slashing. I am not sure if he was sick or if the coach decided he had enough with the penalties and benched him for the rest of the game.WestMetro wrote:Sorenson wasnt suited up today, nor on the bench or in stands that i saw?

I have watched several of the Wayzata games and it seems to be the team is underperforming. 1-3-1 in the past 5 games with a loss to a average Moorhead team and a tie to an average Burnsville team. Though they are without 2 Srs. to Juniors the Jr class is/was loaded with talent and won over 50 games as Bantams and took 3rd in State, I believe.
From what I have seen, the D1 signees on the team are being outperformed by the D1's on the other teams. And it always seems that a certain player starts fights at the end of the game.
What's up? Coaching, obvious some lack of discipline, goaltending? Any thoughts?

Tying and losing to average teams would make them average.Conrad wrote:I have watched several of the Wayzata games and it seems to be the team is underperforming. 1-3-1 in the past 5 games with a loss to a average Moorhead team and a tie to an average Burnsville team. 1-3-1 against five good teams, one goal losses in December, just what doctor ordered if you are a coach. Fights at end of games? one skirmish against Lakeville which involved 10 kids pushing-- A fight is what I saw in Moorhead/Prior Lake (Big difference) inaccurate on the "one kid" comment based on the games I've seen--I saw 4 of the last 5 Wayzata games. Wayzata is playing four lines and sometimes 7 defense so one goal losses to good teams over five game stretch in December isn't end of world. I do think coach needs to play a little bit more to win the rest of the way and give the D1 kids more ice time as both D1's aren't on penalty kill which combined with rotating four lines makes them less of a factor. my two cents.
Agree, Wayzata is not an average team.GoldenBear wrote:1-3-1 against five good teams, one goal losses in December, just what doctor ordered if you are a coach. Potential to be state champs.
Based on the history of this group of skaters should be strong contenders for State Champs but I see a tough road ahead getting out of the section depending on which EP team shows up. Hopkins is intriguing but schedule has been a bit easy.
Still don't think they are in the elite class of LN, STA and Edina at this time. You can't take penalties against these teams.
