Watched periods two and three - a VERY entertaining game between two evenly matched teams. Wasn't sure which team to root for, a city team with a proud tradition that with changing demographics has struggled to keep that tradition going, or an up-and-coming team from a small town in SW Minnesota, a part of the State that doesn't have a strong hockey tradition but is trying very hard to change that. Whatever, you hope that both schools gain from the experience because the fans who watched these two teams go at it were treated to a classic matchup.
Well said! The boys were fun to watch. Two programs that can be proud of their young men, who represented themselves well.MNHockeyFan wrote:Watched periods two and three - a VERY entertaining game between two evenly matched teams. Very fun first game to set the tone for the day. Credit to Moose Younghans for getting his Govs team to bounce back after losing a 4-goal lead. It's pretty impressive that he plays 4 lines and has them playing pretty good fundamental hockey in a program that isn't blessed with a lot of depth or talent these days.
Luverne's big guns are fun to watch, but they don't seem to have the depth they did last season. It'll be interesting to see if they can tighten up enough to give a State Tourney opponent a good game again (if they make it there, of course).
Let's see what Hill and St. Thomas can do for the follow-up act...

was a fun game to watch in the second and third, for sure.. The captain D for Luverne with the long hair, seems like a pretty solid kid, and real strong on his skates, and made some nice passes, reminds me of the Native player a few years back from Detroit Lakes , ( i believe )
That first line does put up some impressive numbers, and the PP % is incredible ( 55%, iirc? ) But I really have a feeling once they play a Hermantown, Mahtomedi, Breck, EGF etc, it could be ugly come Tourney time
