Explains what "pulling the goalie" truly means!

You should really get together with this guy and talk over what "pulling the goalie "truly is used for... Kind of a reunion of sorts!

FYI "of " is appropriate for this guy!

Luvernes defense is weak and the goalie has been out of position. Where is the roll cards roll? They seam weaker than last year. I noticed that they are slowly sliding down the rankings for LPH too!!

If St. Paul Johnson can score like this what is going to happen when they play teams that have real firepower!

Great game that was televised by Fox Sports North. Good to see two public schools battle it out outdoors. Next game is between two Metro all-star squads.

I was impressed with St. Paul Johnson, they have a decent record (11-5-1) considering they have to play Metro all-star squads on a regular basis. This was a good game for Luverne for the experience.

Fun facts:
Student enrollment
Johnson h.s. 975
Luverne h.s. 308

Three of Luverne's top six scorers are freshmen. Only one is a senior. Even if Nelson leaves early, they will be a force for several years to come just based upon the current squad.

A call or two going the other way or Nelson's last second shot going in rather than hitting the post, and the result would have been different.

Really. I would have liked to have seen that first line play a full 60 minutes.

Same math you use on your Freshman thread. Jk. Totally just having fun. Enjoy the freshman thread as well. OT 8 min. Elliot, getting closer to 60 though

It's amazing how quiet (and level headed) it is on here after a Luverne loss. I suppose it takes a while for the crow to digest.

Luverne may run into some serious goalie problems in sections. Honestly though, I think Hutch is the only team offensively that can knock luverne off, and they may have a tough time stopping the first line of the Cardinals

Luverne, the class of 3A goes down to St Paul, the 6th place team in 4A

3A really cleaned up the last couple days in non-section action. A further indictment that 3A is a soft conference when good to decent 3A team has barely wins or loses to middling 7A teams and the 8th out of 10 team 4A.

Friday
Hutchinson 4 @ Virginia 2
Willmar 0 @ Eveleth/Gilbert 5

Saturday
Hutchinson 3 @ Eveleth/Gilbert 2
Willmar 0 @ Virgina 6
Marshall 4 @ Minnehaha Academy 7

This thread is finally cooling off after 2 1/2 years as it seems it is sinking in that 3A is, well, 3A.

I understand that Luverne is 1/3 the size of SPJ, I wonder what percentage of the student body went out for HS Hockey at each of these schools is? I love what both of these schools are doing with and for the game. It was very nice to see the SPJ coach roll lines and see how they responded.

Lets not pull the enrollment card quite yet here if that is your intent..... SPJ is something like 85% minority students. A few years back there was talk that SPJ hockey may dissolve due to uncertainty of future numbers.

Luverne is still the team to beat. It might not be as hard as some make it sound, but, they are still the team to beat.

With all of this talk of "D1 talent" one would think teams, especially Luverne, would be more competitive out of section.... Beat Totino Grace though.

I was surprised and somewhat disappointed to hear about the loss to SPJ. Doesn't reflect well on the section.

Does anyone know if there is highlights of the game somewhere? Didn't get to see it live.

That Totino win doesn't look as good now as it did then. They are 5-9, not ranked, and lost to Breck 6-0 yesterday and only had 8 shots on goal. And this is a big down year for Breck, compared to teams in recent history.

Bettman is correct. I read in the STrib that Johnson is now 88% minority students. Too bad they don't have good ol' Norwegian or Polish hockey players like Toby Sengvongxay. I mean, what is his background anyway? Irish? German? Norwegian? Aren't his parents from the Range?

Well another week in the books. We are only 4 weeks from Playoff time!

Right now it looks to be a section up for grabs.

Luverne takes it on the chin from the #6 seed in Section 4A. The Cardinals lack depth and giving up SIX GOALS to the offensive dynamo St. Paul Johnson shows that the cards a very beatable come playoffs.

So who does it...?!?!
Hutchinson had two wins over some less then impressive 7A Programs (Likely #6 and #7 seeds). They seem to have goaltending questions of their own. They do have the Glasser- Cowger- Graf line and the Tigers had to be watching the HDM game yesterday licking their chops for a chance to play the cards. They can score and play a physical style that seems to be the formula to beat Luverne.

LDC tough team to figure out. Have a some players and can score goals will also play a physical style. They have been up and down this season that is due to some very shaky goaltending. They are a team that will be interesting to pay attention too.

New Ulm when is this team going to figure it out?? They have two solid scoring lines and have the best goalie of the section teams mentioned. Going to be a scary 5 or 4 seed. They still have key match ups with Marshall, Willmar and Luverne. Been a major disappointment this year brining back all the seniors and experience from last year's group. I still would not count this group out if they can win out with their remaining schedule they still can secure a top 3 seed.

Both Marshall and Willmar have an upset in them but I am not sure they can make a big run in the section. Marshall's tight contest with Luverne early this year was eye opening and will get a good shot at them yet this year. Marshall has Luverne, New Ulm, Willmar and LDC all left to play they control their fate and could secure a top 3 seed yet.

After that Redwood Valley, Morris Benson, Windom, Fairmont and Worthington. None look to be at GAC this season.

I do think we are in for some fun playoff hockey. Some good match ups left but it will be very interesting to see it play out.

As I have said all year it is wide open come playoff time.
