High School Tourney Announcers
Last year was 50 years for Louie. Has anyone heard, is he in or out this year?
Yeah, it was really fun hearing him call out the wrong player's name all the time. The Poelings scored several goals on themselves in the finals according to Mr. Thorne. You would think that after three days of calling their names he'd get it straight which team who was on. I guess preparation isn't his thing...Bonin2121 wrote:I'm more curious if Gary Thorne will be back. I hope so.
Well with so many pucks sailing by the LN goalie, who could tell who shot it...Traxler wrote:Yeah, it was really fun hearing him call out the wrong player's name all the time. Most (if not close to all) of the kids that played in last year's AA Tourney had spent dozens (if not hundreds) of hours playing the NHL 08/09/10/11/12/13/14 video games with their friends. EA Sports had Thorne do the play by play. So hear that same announcer calling out their name when they watched replays of their Tourney games must have been something special (even if he mangled the pronunciations).Traxler wrote:Yeah, it was really fun hearing him call out the wrong player's name all the time. Let's Play Hockey reported via Twitter today that Jim Erickson will call both classes of The Tourney this year.
I'm a fan of Jim's and while I certainly thought having Thorne was pretty cool, Jim will do a great job and will have plenty of knowledge about the teams, considering he has covered many of them in the regular season. Congratulations to Jim, a hard working guy who is an excellent broadcaster. He has certainly earned this opportunity.
Also, Lou Nanne is back for his 51st year and Ben Clymer will call Class A.

So is it Erickson or Clymer calling A? You kind of contradicted yourself here.ZachHalverson wrote:Let's Play Hockey reported via Twitter today that Jim Erickson will call both classes of The Tourney this year.

He is saying Clymer and Erickson are calling A, while Nanne and Erickson are calling AA.hshockeyfan53 wrote:So is it Erickson or Clymer calling A? So who is actually calling A? Both guys don't call the game. One does play by play and the other does color commentary.green4 wrote:He is saying Clymer and Erickson are calling A, while Nanne and Erickson are calling AA.hshockeyfan53 wrote:So is it Erickson or Clymer calling A? Yes he is in tune with HS hockey but he's just not very exciting to listen to when comparing to guys that have done the tourney in the past. His goal call, which is a crucial part of every play-by-play guy, is extremely boring.alcloseshaver wrote:Jim Erickson broadcasts multiple HS sports on BOB 106. He is from Braham and is very capable and in tune with HS hockey. He may not be the big name but is very good.
You sound like the kinda guy who likes Lapanta's "GOAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL" callhshockeyfan53 wrote:Yes he is in tune with HS hockey but he's just not very exciting to listen to when comparing to guys that have done the tourney in the past. Lapanta is alright. I guess I just get too used to Doc Emrik and Gary Thorne from back in the day.
If you ever want to listen to some really good announcers just go on YouTube and type in Joe Beninati, John Forslund, Mike Lange and Randy Hahn along with Emrik and Thorne. They have a way of making everything exciting!
