1st Round Interesting Stats A and AA

Post by Nordic »

Looking at some of the scores on the Hub, I found this kind of interesting,
Comparing the home to the visitor, might be safe to assume, the listed home team would be the higher seed.

Tuesday thru Friday
Of 38 games, their was 19 shut outs, 18 for home 50%, 1 for visitor
34 wins for home, 4 for visitor
209 goals for home, 41 for visitor

Ok, I'm bored, I'm sure the second round will be closer and some upsets.

Good Luck to all the teams,

I'm pretty amazed at how few upsets there have been so far, through Saturday's results. To me this shows that the coaches in each section pretty much nailed it in seeding their section teams. There are always going to be some upsets, but this year there have been relatively few, so far:

1A - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
2A - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
3A - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
4A - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
5A - Minor upset: Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 5 (Mound-Westonka) advanced to the Semi's; TBD
6A - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
7A - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
8A - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD

1AA - Upset: Nos. 1, 2, 4 & 6 (Rochester Century) advanced to the Semi's, but Nos. 1 & 2 made it to the Final
2AA - Minor upset: Nos. 1, 2, 3 & 5 (Holy Family/Waconia) advanced to the Semi's; TBD
3AA - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
4AA - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
5AA - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
6AA - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
7AA - Nos. 1-4 all advanced to the Semi's; TBD
8AA - Upset: Nos. 1, 2, 4 & 6 (Moorhead) advanced to the Semi's, TBD

Yes, one would think that the 4 vs. 5 seed in particular would be ripe for an upset or two. Perhaps there is a great delineation between the "top" teams and the "bottom" teams. The home team has a decided advantage, of course, but how many of these teams play on their home rink vs. neutral ice?

It appears that only 2 of the AA sections, and 2 of the A section had their quarter final games on neutral ice. One of the upsets was Rochester Century over JM. That game was played at Graham which is essentially a neutral site game. The other 2 upsets happened on home ice (Bloomington and Sartell).
