The AA games have begun, with 19 contestants. PLEASE double-check your scores, since we have a few missing scores, tie games, no winner picked, etc.

5AA
Anoka 1 Rogers 0
No games yet played in Sections 4AA, 6AA, 7AA, or 8AA.
Many games on tap the next three nights. No leaderboard yet since it's early. 16 out of the 19 contestants have 7 points while the other three have 6 points. Good luck to all players and contestants going forward.
I don't think anyone picked Holy Family to beat Jefferson! Congrats on the upset!
Jefferson now has two straight seasons of losing a playoff game on home ice to a lower seed. Any thoughts? Coaching?
NOTE: This is a day behind due to the Forum being offline. Perhaps that was fortuitous, though, since it was my wedding anniversary and I lived to post another day. I already had a write-up ready to go, so this is a quick copy/paste. I'll update yesterday's scores later today.
Just a few games last evening with everything going as expected. Last night’s results were:
The contest is very young and we’re all bunched together, so everyone is very much alive. The semi-final games will begin to produce separation in a hurry. Good luck to all.
Great thanks to MNHockeyFan for keeping hockey scores and contest scores up to date, making my job here quite easy. Here are highlights from yesterday:
A few upsets, and quite a few games closer than expected (a sobering reminder that all teams are just a bad bounce or dinged crossbar from elimination), but most final outcomes going according to the scripts. Surprisingly, it looks like there were no correct scores by our panel.
Class AA Scores 2/7/15
1AA – Semifinals
Upper Bracket
#1 Lakeville South 7
#4 Dodge County 2
Lower Bracket
#6 Rochester Century 3
#2 Lakeville North 4
13 out of 19 of us predicted a battle of North vs. South to advance to State.
As we hit the home stretch, with 3 championship games and 5 semi-final series on tap next, the leaderboard is still very tight, so almost everyone has a legitimate chance at victory. The wolfman currently leads the pack. Will he continue to defend his predictive territory or will someone else ultimately emerge as the alpha? Good luck to all.
44 wolfman
43 clutterbucket, Fisheye, sinbin, u12dad
42 massalsa, rascalbrock, spars46
41 hugo_lucas, Nordic, panpan111, The Bone
40 36Guy, mnhockey3535, MNHockeyFan, nu2hockey
39 1 other
38 1 other
37 1 other
We had Hill-Murray advancing unanimously while sparlimb, mnhockey3535, and rascalbrock nailed the correct score.
Lower Bracket
#3 Roseville 2
#2 Cretin-Derham Hall 4
All but one of us picked a CDH victory and Nordic, mnhockey3535, rascalbrock, and panpan111 got the right score. while some of us, for the 8th time in a single night and counting, got one score correct and missed the other by one goal, with nothing to show for it.
Wolfman was ousted as alpha by virtue of rascalbrock's cunning picks. Will rascalbrock hold off the remainder of the pack, or will wolfman reassert his dominance? Will new challengers emerge to take home the spoils of the predictive hunt? Plenty of games to be played with significant disagreement in at least 5 of the sections, so the contest is wide open. Good luck to all.
Similar to Class A, all of the top seeds in AA have done what they're supposed to do - that is WIN - so far. Going into this evening's semifinals in 6AA, all the other section finals - with just one exception - will have No. 1 going against No. 2:
1AA #1 Lakeville South vs. #2 Lakeville North
2AA #1 Eden Prairie vs. #2 Edina
3AA #1 Eagan vs. #3 Eastview
4AA #1 Hill-Murray vs. #2 Cretin-Derham Hall
5AA #1 Centennial vs. #2 Blaine
6AA TBD, but the Top 4 seeds have all advanced to the semi's
7AA #1 Elk River/Zimmerman vs. #2 Andover
8AA #1 Roseau vs. #2 Buffalo
So, other than possibly 3AA, and putting aside 6AA until later tonight, all the other sections will be sending either their No. 1 or 2 seeded team to State. As in Class A, leading up to the finals, the coaches could hardly have done a better job in seeding their section's teams.
One other note: If you consider Buffalo to be a "metro area" team - and if they were to pull the upset and beat top seeded Roseau in 8AA - the field in this year's Class AA state tournament would consist of all metro-area teams for the first time in over 10 years, and possibly all time. Then again, Roseau may have something to say about that.
Some surprises last night, whether in winning teams or number of goals scored.
Scores 2-11-15
Class AA
3AA – Final
#1 Eagan 4
#3 Eastview 6
Eastview used three 3rd-period goals to shock Eagan. This was an upset according to the seedings, but 7 out of 19 of you predicted the Lightning to advance to State. No correct scores.
Minnetonka used a Norby hat trick and scoring from all 3 lines to rout the Royals. We were unanimous in predicting a Skipper win, but no correct scores.
Lower Bracket
#3 Wayzata 5
#2 Maple Grove 1
Wayzata enjoyed 2 goals each from Heising and Czech to pale the Crimson. Only Sparlimb went out on a limb far enough to predict a Trojan victory and did not have the correct score. (I apologize for the last pun and I admit it was much too easy, but I just couldn't resist.)
Thanks to the upsets, we have some re-shuffling in the leaderboard, but rascalbrock maintains his overall lead.
80 rascalbrock
76 mnhockey3535, wolfman
73 massalsa
72 u12dad
71 spars46
70 panpan111, sinbin
69 clutterbucket, nu2hockey, Sparlimb
68 The Bone
67 Fisheye, MNHockeyFan, Nordic
65 2 others
64 1 other
63 1 other
2 championship games tonight with 5 more tomorrow. There is still a lot of disagreement on most games, so the contest is wide open. rascalbrock has done a great job of predictive brocking and tackling, while wolfman yearns to retake his position as pack leader. Or might massalsa spice things up with a late rush to the top? Good luck to all.
[quote="Sparlimb"And I hate to say I told you so on MG. Next year is Maple Grove's year.[/quote]
When you look at the players Tonka returns I think the MG window is 2 years down the road, and that is a small window, as both the goalies will be Sr's then.

In their short write-up/recap of the game this morning the Strib (paper version) actually has North winning 2-1 in OT - big OOPS. Yet the box score correctly shows South as the 2-1 OT winner.

The strib writer probably still has his panties-in-a-wad over his family's school getting beat by SSP
Sounds like a fun game...The Blake/Breck game was a blast!
Well, AA at least matched A excitement last night with two exciting OT games.
Class AA
1AA – Final
#1 Lakeville South 2
#2 Lakeville North 1 (OT)
Lakeville North suffers another crushing OT loss, this time to arch-rival Lakeville South on a short-handed goal 1:29 into OT. Only 5 of our 19 competitors predicted that the South would overcome the North, but they gained some valuable ground on their peers. No correct scores here.
ERZ and Andover traded goals all evening, but Andover netted the last one, just 29 seconds into OT, to secure a spot at State. No one in our illustrious panel predicted a Husky victory.
Couldn't help but notice all the consecutive point totals, from 67 all the way to 77. That's some kind of straight if you're playing poker, and it also makes rascalbrock look pretty good!
Nimrod wrote:I pick all the lower seeds except Edina. EP wins that one. Should be some great hockey!
oops.
I said it in my pick (picked Edina to upset EP) and will once again. Sorry EPDad.
Congrats to Edina on the big time upset. For a while tonight it looked like Tonka might go down too which would have left HM as the #1 seed at state. That would have been crazy.
EDIT: HM has one less loss thank Tonka and the teams didn't play. I expect Tonka to get the #1 seed, but you could make an argument.
