7AA & 7A Semi-finals at Amsoil Arena Saturday
This is the schedule I got from the ticket director yesterday. Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for students. Ticket office opens at 10:00 am. Gates open at 11:00 am. Elk River vs Cloquet at Noon, East/Rapids directly after. Seperate tickets must be purchased for both 7AA and 7A sessions. Per stupid MSHSL policy, 7A tickets cannot be purchased until around 4:00PM. This is not Amsoil Arena's fault. So with the lines formed by 7A fans and 7AA fans being cleared after Rapids vs East, it's going to be a mess.
Again, game schedule:
12:00 Elk River vs Cloquet
2:00 Duluth East vs Grand Rapids
Likely 7A matchups:
6:00 Hermantown vs Hibbing
8:00 Duluth Denfeld vs Duluth Marshall
Again, game schedule:
12:00 Elk River vs Cloquet
2:00 Duluth East vs Grand Rapids
Likely 7A matchups:
6:00 Hermantown vs Hibbing
8:00 Duluth Denfeld vs Duluth Marshall

They will empty the arena out after the first two games just like they do at the Xcel Center after two games. A way to make more money no doubt.rainier wrote:So if you want to watch all four games you have to buy a morning session ticket, then leave after the first two games and then come right back in to buy an evening session ticket?

He couldn't becuase the refs that Randolph wants to use for the DE/GR game were busy. Just gonna have to pay your $5 at the parking ramp entrance and take your chances.alcloseshaver wrote:DJ, thought you would have scheduled this show for another weekend.nota612er wrote:FYI for out-of-towners - The annual Boat & Travel show is at the DECC/Pioneer Hall this weekend as well so parking will be an issue...give yourself enough time. Should be a great atmophere in Canal Park.

Guess I kind of figured they would empty the arena between games. But thanks for the heads up!TheHockeyDJ wrote:This is the schedule I got from the ticket director yesterday. And $18 for four good games isn't all that bad.

I thought they always tried to have the boat show at the DECC the week before the playoffs started. I used to work down there and I only recall one previous time where the boat show was held on the same week the sectionals started. It was 2005 and the 7AA semis were played in Hibbing or Grand Rapids. Of course only the old DECC arena and Pioneer Hall existed. Now with AMSOIL Arena, they must now be able to stage both events at same time.
And those aren't my words. I have no idea why. Those are the words of a person I know in the media. It's just pretty crazy that a semi-final at Amsoil Arena featuring these teams won't be available to see anywhere. You can here it, though, on the radio streamed. https://www.network1sports.com/station/wklk It's the age we live in I guess. Not much makes sense anymore....kniven wrote:nope.. no video for semi-finals.. the AD's wouldn't allow it without a huge payday to make up for people who didn't goSlammer wrote:Any video streams?
I'm assuming today's day-long hockey fest at Amsoil is going to be fantastic with great attendance, which makes me wonder if they will do the same with the 7A and 7AA finals next year. Why not have the finals at 5 and 7 on Friday?
Instead of the usual Wednesday 7A final that gets okay attendance and the Thursday 7AA final that gets pretty good attendance, I think a combined event would threaten to sell out the Oil Can. It would be a hot ticket.

Tons of fun at Amsoil today. DE-GR and DM-Denfeld were tight battles, and the other two games not so much, but the crowds were solid and I hope they do it again next year. A few observations:
-Tough break for Rapids outshooting East 2-1 yet still being denied. There's a lot of young talent on the T-hawks that I think will make them the favorite in 7AA next year.
-Hounds get it done, what can you say? The beat goes on for Randolph as they get to shoot for yet another trip to state.
-I'll be shocked if ER doesn't win 7AA. They looked great.
-Marshall played a fantastic game defensively as Denfeld had very few high quality scoring chances. They'll need to do that again to beat Hermantown.
-Hermantown kicked it into another gear after the first period and did a great job keeping Perunovich in check. They are a talented, hard working group that always impresses.
-Hermantown was easily the 2nd best team that played at Amsoil today. They could absolutely compete with Elk River and it would be a great game. Too bad the powers that be in Hermantown won't let their kids reach their full potential and play at the highest level; they are more than capable of being a AA power.
-Parking sucked. Might not want to have the boat show on the same weekend next year.
- Congrats to the winners and I'm hoping the title games will be barnburners.
