Hill played 15 games in 31 days in January. No one played more games then they did in that time. So that's some good conditioning. But it's talent too, and they have a lot of it. They played calm cool and collected, and it was no match in the 3rd period tonight. If Tonka dumped it in, Hill was there to beat them on the forecheck and moved the puck out of the defensive zone very quickly. Tonka looked confused at times.Nostalgic Nerd wrote:Looked like Hill just wore em out. By the halfway point the game was over. A one-goaler but not very close. Was it conditioning that did it? Matchup changes?

Seemed to be quite the sway imo. Tonka was getting the better of it in the first period, and by the halfway point it was pretty much over territorially. Reminds me of the Edina/HM boys final a couple years back where the score wasn't indicative as by the halfway point the latter looked completely pooped only to make one last gas at the very end.Lace'emUp wrote:Hill played 15 games in 31 days in January. HM played 3 straight weeks with a game on Wed, Fri and Saturday to get ready for the tournament. Plus they have better depth on the team this year than Tonka did. Tonka was outstanding in the first period and very well could have been up by a few goals, but keeping it 1-0 was key. HM turned it on in the 2nd period and never really looked back. Patrick finishes her career as a 2 time champion goalie who once again made all the solid saves. Hill gave up 3 goals in 3 games, which is always a recipe for success.Lace'emUp wrote:Hill played 15 games in 31 days in January. No one played more games then they did in that time. Bad news (for the field) is Laura Anderson #3 and their top two defensemen (Prater and Steffen) are all back next year. HM will have a solid chance to 3-peat.

It was simple, Tonka's first line was gassed, clearly had a hard time keeping up with HM and generating significant scoring chances. HM's core Def were too good, and shut down Tonka's top line with physical play and good body control. The top line for Tonka finished (-2) for the night, but probably played about 70% of the game with the move in recording one shot for the entire game. Would Tonka have been better off rolling three and grinding HM down with depth? Short shifts with increased tempo, creating more scoring chances? No one will ever know.Sparlimb wrote:HM played 3 straight weeks with a game on Wed, Fri and Saturday to get ready for the tournament. Plus they have better depth on the team this year than Tonka did. Hats off to HM, their girls played a great game and were clearly the better team last night, the score was not indicative of how well they played.
Wow a lot of bitterness. We get it your kid on the 3rd line didn't play much.PondHockeyChampion wrote:

1. Are you even in that game or at the tournament without the move in?
2. Instead of taking shots at your coach, why can't you just support the team and understand that he knows more than you do.
3. Maybe if the 3rd line did play more it would have been 5-1 HM
4. Why can't you instead of taking shots at a very good coach, have your daughter ask him she needs to do to see more ice next year.
My daughter didn't make the HS team as a ninth grader. Instead of bitching we went and watched them play to see the talent. I realized that she shouldn't have made it. She wasn't nearly as good as the top 5 kids and much smaller than the next 4. So rather than sit and bitch at the coach, which is done a lot, we have figured out where she needs to get better and she will work on that this summer to hopefully make varsity next year.
Just be happy that your kid got to go to the X and have that experience, not a lot of girls get to do that.

FYI..PHC's kid is not even on the 3rd line. Typical response from someone who is vertically challenged.Newly1234 wrote:Wow a lot of bitterness. We get it your kid on the 3rd line didn't play much.PondHockeyChampion wrote:

Congrats to Tonka on a great year and an even more deserving HM team who played a fantastic game! As a fan of girls hockey it is a game I will never forget!

How about the present. Section 6 has had a team in the ship every year for the last 5 years with 3 state championships and 2 Runner-ups.
All a moot point...HM took it home and let the debate start about next year!

Agreed and hats off to HM and TRF on well deserved victories. Looking forward to the process starting all over again in 8 months.36Guy wrote:Stat Illusions..I love this game!hockeywild7 wrote:The last 9 years section 4AA has been in the state championship game 7 times, winning the state title 5 times and finishing 2nd twice.
