System or not, DE just doesn't have the horses to run with the ER.
They don't have the horses to run with ER? It seems to me that they just ran with those horses and tied them. Some believe they actually beat them in OT. On paper, Elk River looks like a 2 goal favorite, but if East plays their "system" correctly and gets into it right away, it will remain close. I like East's chances in a tight playoff game at Amsoil based on previous years success.

The only "system" that was worth a crap was a red hot goalie. The second half of the game Rapids went through your system like corn goes through Elliott and Sats!

That puck went in... I could send the video in but it might cause an uproar.

I'd love to see it. I didn't get to see any highlights from that game.

Elk River is the better team but Hounds win this game because the Hounds will score first and then nerves and Hounds home ice advantage will get to the Elks and they will choke. Hounds win 2-0 with an empty net goal. It's tough to win a section title with your hands around your neck.

How many times have we talked about the Duluth East Greyhounds with coach Randolph being a "underdog"going into a section final? Rarely if ever!! The Elks have been the better team with better overall talent (on paper at least). I see this being a tense low scoring game. Howg and Altmann will play valently. But Easts current state tournament run will fninally come an end. Elks 3-2 3ot. Oddly, it was Elk River that ended Easts 5 year run in the mid to late 90's (1999 7aa semi at the DECC). The Elks than beat Hibbing (in Hibbing if I remember) in ot to go to state. ER was the last "southern" team in 7AA to win.

You remember correctly.

As much as I want East to win this one, I see the Elks winning by three or four.

A friend at work today had an interesting take on the game; "If Howg stands on his head, Elk River wins 4-1", leaving me to wonder what Howg was standing on when they tied 1-1 in the regular season. :)

I don't see that happening Thursday. I think it will be a tight game, East making good chances hard to come by for ER, and capitalizing on the few they get. I think it comes down to the wire either way.

I may as well pipe in on this one although not big on predicting scores. ER has had a great season, Their best player returned for his senior year and passed up other opportunities to play his senior season with his buddies and is in the final 2 for Mr. Hockey. Kierstad has really stepped up his play since the last 10 minutes of the first East game and will need to limit the retaliation penalties he is so fond of. ER has lot's of secondary scoring and Lutz has 39 goals. Their at full strength on D and the Soph goalie has played well after a slow start. East has had an average season and Howg appears to have stolen the game from Rapids. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG? I would ride Jaremko to the win. Is the game on local TV? If so take advantage of the TV timeouts and get Asst. Coach Bruce a trip to the state tournament, he deserves to go ever since Necklacegate, ER/Armstrong. The roads should be good and the locals have no excuse to not get up to Amsoil and support the club. These players have played all over the country and in some cases the World, the rink or location should be of no advantage, just get it done.

If Howg can put a game together like that again the Hounds will have a chance. I didnt think Easts D could handle Elks scoring but it looks like they did in the first go around. Should be an interesting game.

East played horribly against Rapids. Sloppy play, missing passes, poor clearing attempts, ect. ect. The good news for the Hounds, that one is out of the way. I don't see them playing like that again. Coach Randolph will have the guys playing at the top of their game. Howg will be a wild card. I see the Elks coming out flying and getting 10 shot in the first 8 minutes. If Gunner can keep the puck out of the net in those first 8 minutes, it will give East a big lift. AT that point it will be anyone's game and in that scenario, I will take the team with Randolph on the bench. If Howg can't keep those first 10 shot from going in and the Elks get 1 in the first 8 minutes, I am afraid (for east fans), this game will get away from the Hounds. So here is what I am going with...
If the Elks score in the 1st 8 minutes, 5-1 Elks.
If Howg (and the Hounds) keeps the Elks scoreless in the 1st 8 min, 3-2 East

The second scenario is how the first game played out, Elks had 2 breakaways right away and Howg stopped them and from then on it was even. East blocked a ton of shots and Lutz was hitting pipes, fine line here. I like the first scenario if it can happen.

I haven't checked, but it should be on WDIO Channel 10. It has been for at least the last 10 years so hopefully they picked it up again.

As Herb Brooks said before the Russian game in 1980, "Its over!" Elks win by 3 in this one.

It would take Jedi mind tricks for East to win this game.

And EREmpire obviously will not be fooled.

Why not? It fooled them last year. Umm..and the year before that. And the year before that....

Besides, EREmpire is old now. He probably doesn't even remember what high school he attended.

Fooled them with the most talent?

EREmpire turned into a fine young man. Despite the fools he suffered here.
