Bemidji's Ironic Path to the X Championship Game

Post by WestMetro »

Reclassifying this interesting irony discussion to a new topic.

Warriors41, over to you again.

West Metro:

LVN vs Edina would be the first undefeated vs one loss championship game since the 1974 championship matchup of Edina East vs Bemidji.

Bemidji will likely be either at the X to observe that game, or to prevent it.

Optimistic Warriors41 hypothesizes the prevention:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
warriors41

Ironically, it's gonna be the Jacks that make sure the matchup can't happen!

WestMetro

Yes Warrior, get all the Jacks believing in themselves(to prevent the irony) as much as you do and anything can happen! Question: do you want the Jacks to do the prevention in the qtrfinals or the semifinals? And against which team?

warriors41

Honestly, if they get past Moorhead and go to state they most likely won't get seeded. I think we all agree on that. That means they have a 2 out of 3 chance to meet either LVN or Edina in the quarter finals so I'll go with that. As to which team I'd prefer they play, I'll say Edina, just because I hate them the most. Stealing Warroad's '69 championship and all

WestMetro

Warrior, dont say IF they get by Moorhead!

Anyway, very good logic and rationale on your preferred qtrfinal selection and win for the Jacks!

Then, who would you prefer them to beat in the semis ?

warriors41

Gets a little tougher I project out to the second round without knowing who exactly makes it to state and what the match ups are. But I'll assume that STA is the 3rd seed and and win their first game.

Of course I'd really like to a repeat of 2012 I think, where all the games in the first round were won by underdogs. That would help a ton.

West Metro

Ok anything is possible. But what if Hill Murray is seeded 3 and beats Tonka or Blaine in the first round. Leitner and Tatro seem to have the size and may be able to outmaneuver Edinas Foley and Meyer( along with a great game by Tharaldson) , but can they get by Hills Jacob Olsen and Mikey Anderson? Maybe so to prevent the otherwise ironic similarity of the 2015 and 1974 championship games. Im starting to see your Jacks motivational route to the final game with Lakeville North!

Theraldson is exactly the kind if goalie that has the ability to steal a game or two. Honestly, he's going to have to probably do that, no matter who their first game is against. Bemidji's top line is very talented. Tatro is only a sophomore playing real far north so not many people hve heard of him in the metro, but he has a very high ceiling. Their second line is pretty good offensively as well. The 3rd and 4th are good at executing their roles. The top 2 pairs of D seem pretty solid.

Overall, I think Bemidji is deeper than most teams that come out of section 8. I think they're certainly better than last years Roseau team that almost scored a major upset over LVN. Elliot can probably give a better run down of the Jacks than what I just provided.

Just hoping to beat Moorhead right now.

IF

the BJacks get to state they should have a 4 or 5 seed based on record and ability.
But
since not being seen by the coaches involved they will not unless there are a couple of upsets.
So the first round will depend on the draw and Edina, LN and STA have very good teams, but beatable with the Jacks strength which is speed.

1, 2, 3 are fast.
They play physical and have good size in 4 - 5 forwards and 2 D men.
4 Dmen can carry the puck up ice extremely well and the 5th has a potent shot from the blue-line.

They are aggressive on the fore-check and the back-check and kill penalties very well.

Theraldson is a very athletic goal tender.

This is the most depth a team from 8AA has had in a very long time.

BUT
they have to get there first and Moorhead has a very good goal tender in Ditmer.

We will see what happens Wednesday night.

Im telling you guys everyone always underestimates section 8AA. Whoever goes is gonna have a chip on thier shoulders, especially the Jacks. Why don't they deserve to be ranked? They are at a 20 plus win season with only 3 losses. Sure section 8AA as of the last two seasons havn't been past the second round, but before that they always upset if they wern't already ranked close to the top. Just because they arn't by the citites doesn't mean they cant play with those teams. Not saying its gonna happen but I take whoever goes from section 8 to make some noise this year

Sounds like you are describing the #1, and 3-8 ranked teams in state. Edina has an edge on depth of talent on the third line IMDAO.

I have been away for a while and there is no way I am catching up with all the threads, so forgive me if this is covered elsewhere. If all of the favorites win in the section finals. That will be #1-7 and Bemidji, according to the hub rankings. If Bemidji, is as fast and tough as you say they are, the Tourney could be extremely competitive. Who needs seedings? Pick'em out of a hat!!!! No pushovers. Wow.

I am sure there will be an upset in section finals I just hope it is not in section 3.

Wow, if there are a couple knowledgeable people representing that this years Jack squad is way better than last years senior laden high performing Roseau team , then that makes me even more excited about the first round matchups .

I have to say, I hadnt looked at Leitner and Tatros size on their roster until yesterday, they are definitely going to have a size advantage over Edina if they play a two way forward checking role.

WM- Bemidji is much deeper than last's years Roseau senior laden team was. Based on what I saw at last yrs State tourny, I wasn't sure Roseau had a 2nd or 3rd line as they rode their 1st line pretty hard. In fact, Yon, in my mind was the best individual player at the Tourny last year. He never came off the ice and almost single handily carried Roseau past LN. Bemidji doesn't have a Yon like player on their roster (at this time) but overall much deeper and should be competitive if they get to the X. Their Jr. class is loaded with talent and their goaltending is outstanding. Are they as deep as the top three teams in AA, probably not but should hold their own.

Leitner has been really using his body effectivly this season, really letting people know he is out there, and he works hard and it shows in his goals this season. Both of those two I feel go through stages in a game, Elliot correct me if I'm wrong but the first couple minutes its establish that its gonna be a rough night. Then its finese, then back to the body and then what ever it takes to win. Good motors.

Yeah, they can finesse.

Of the 14 (9 F & 5 D) 13 can dangle. Of the 14, 11 are very physical.

They hit well and within the rules.
Maybe one or two will take a penalty because they are a little over eager.

They are a fun team to watch.

Its the most fun to watch in 29 years (since Pelewa and teammates).
And maybe more so because they all bring it all the time.

And the fourth line does what they should do. They are big and physical (but not penalty takers) and smart. They play their 25-35 seconds and get off the ice. (The last two games they played a lot in third period, hope, but highly doubt, they will see that action on Wednesday.

Theraldson is a quality goalie, but if he is out for whatever reason, Attaberry, the backup, is a mirror image (they even look a bit alike from a distance).

Just hope they play their game on Wednesday and the breaks go the BJacks way. That way all the cidiots can see that we are not just blowing smoke (or vice versa).

Next year would be great if the Jack's could schedule a nonconference game with elk River or Andover, if not I may have to drive up to St. Cloud to see them. Last year I was a big fan of Sectin 8 Roseau Yon and Company.. Saw them beat holy family, in addition to Watching their great game at the X

Well, the Jacks have now done it!

Up to the Bemidji faithful to get them ready and motivated for the first round ! Im expecting about five full fan sections at the X.

Im assuming BSU is closing down for the Thursday and Friday and providing free student shuttle buses to St Paul. Also free meals and lodging for 3 nites, credited against dorm fees. Make a couple detours and pick up Roseau and Moorhead Section 8 supporters along the way.

Not sure about BSU but BHS will be missing many Srs and Jrs....
not sure if the Soph andF class will be excused as easy.

1400 tickets have been made available to the school and the AD believes it will take 45 minutes to sell them on Monday afternoon.
Student section has been quite strong all year (for last 4 years actually).

Man, this is going to really cut into attendance for the final WCHA weekend against Mankato at the Sanford Center. Mankato could be playing for the Cup, BSU for a home playoff seed. Oh well, such is life!

GO JACKS and GO BEAVERS!!!

BSU guy, you already won One huge tournament this year so you should be willing to split your Fan Base and send another thousand down to the X. If necessary, bring reinforcements from B.C.
