1. Special teams. There was only one penalty called in the first meeting, and Elk River scored on it. As was the case on Saturday against Rapids, East needs to stay out of the box to have a chance, while at the same time throwing their weight around some, which they did very effectively in the regular season game. They need to strike that balance again.
2. Elk River's secondary scoring. In the first meeting, the Elks' offense pretty much ran through Jaremko. The 2nd and 3rd lines generated little to nothing. That surprised me, and if Murray, Zerban, or someone else can get them an even strength goal or two, they're in great shape. On a similar note, I disagree that TV timeouts help DE more than ER. If ER can double-shift Jaremko some, that's a huge advantage, and DE doesn't have anyone who can make as big of a difference. East is actually playing a deeper lineup than in recent years.
3. East's steadiness. In a surprising number of East's losses this year, they've actually played 2 pretty good periods, but the crap has hit the fan in one of the other ones, and that was enough to do them in. That happened again on Saturday, but Howg bailed them out. They need to get to the system in all 3 periods, because they can't depend on that happening again.
4. Of course, the mental side of things for Elk River.
More of Jaremko is ER's best option. He was exploding past East through the neutral zone in the first matchup but East did a nice job of bottling him up closer to the net.

The reality must have finally set in...there is no more spinning to do this year.
Ah well, he'll be ready for next fall again I'm sure. I actually hope their team is dominant next year, it would be nice to see the Halloween Machine back in St Paul.

If somehow East wins this one, all of the blame is on #15.
