Re: D3 After H.S.
There are several guys i know that might play D3 (if they don't make ushl)

Too bad I forgot all of their names. Maybe Mike Schmidt SCC.

This kinda brings up something that I found interesting. Casey Parenteau and MAtt Kaiser faced off in the MIAC championship the other day. Aren't those two of the bigger hockey flops anyone has ever seen?

Re: D3 After H.S.
If you refer to what was expected of them, then I suppose they are technically "flops". But give D3 hockey some credit, especially those 2 teams. I would assume that there are probably 7-8 players on those 2 teams combined that could be playing D1 had they chosen that path, along with other very talented players that were simply missing just one aspect of their game (size, shot, speed) that took them the D3 route.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... kster27 at: 3/7/05 10:22 am

I agree. I actually love watching St. Johns hockey. They are both phenomenal players. But these two were very high prospects for D1 schools, then they just didn't go that route.

I thought Matt Kaiser was going to be playing for MSU Mankato next year.

Re: D3 After H.S.
A thread on here earlier this year said that Kaiser basically got burned out from his life being nothing but hockey at NTDP then in the USHL, he just wanted to go the less intense route of playing at St. Thomas.

I agree both of these guys were talked to be big time D1 players. Where was the last place Parenteau played HS hockey? What years did he play in the USHL?

Umm....last year parenteau played at WBL. The 2 (i think) previous years he played for the Green Bay Gamblers. He started out high school playing for Breck.

ya
Parenteau played bantams for White Bear his freshman year, played at Breck his sophomore year, went to Green Bay(USHL) his junior played minimal, transfered back to Wbl his senior year and sat out half of his senior year. Great Player should have stuck it out at WBL his whole career.

Re: ya
I disagree...he should have stuckit out at Breck his entire career.

Re: ya
If Parenteau had stayed with WBL it would have only improved the team chemistry. If they would have had the extra few years to play together at the varisty level I think they might have been a real dominate force their Junior and Senior year. So he transfers back senior year and after he sat out half the year they plug him in the top line where he belonged. But I only think that if they had more games together under their belt the end result might have possibly been different.

Parenteau
I agree with 2A oldtimer. If he would have stayed at Breck he would have won state his senior year. Think if Breck had him piled on top of all of that talent they had. Who knows, Breck probably could have won it his junior year. The press Breck got for blowing out everyone would have only increased his stock. His points would obviously have sky rocketed if he played with Wheeler and Dee. Look at how many kids from Breck go D-1. His decision to leave Breck was the downfall.

Re: Parenteau
I agree with you Paul (PStauff71). The line he was on was a dominant force in A Bantams. I think their chemistry would have built up more than ever and they would be one of the top lines in the state. I didnt like his decision to go to breck in 10th grade...i think he may be regreting it a little. Breck is a great team and i am not knocking them. I just think he should have stuck with WBL his whole carreer. He is now doing well at St. Johns. Casey is a great hockey player, and i hope he succeeds.

Breck over WBL
I think we have some WBL kids wanting him to stay their. The better place to get chances was at Breck. WBL is 0-17 in the first round. Breck has a record of 10-4. They have won two championships in the 2000's. It is not even a debate.

Quote:
It is not even a debate.

Yes it is because casey did the right thing by coming back and playing for his home town. Who cares what each teams record at state what it doesnt matter. Caseys final words at senior night were "Never forget where you came from" and thats what he did. He even had to sit on the bench for have the year. But to him it was worth it.
The curse lives on.....
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... Breck over WBL
The kid probably was more happy to be with his friends and all, which is great. I am saying it hurt his hockey career.

Re: Breck over WBL
I think there is also some Breck guys in here that wanted him to stay. I cant remember but i dont think Breck made it to state when Casey was there. Maybe he didnt like the program, or the school but he left. It was his choice to leave for Green Bay, and they his to come back with his friends at WBL. He had a great time last year being with all of his friends.

Question about D3
Do most kids in D3, not just MN, but all over the U.S., go to juniors first or are they just out of high school going to college?

Re: Question about D3
most of them are right out of HS. The kids that play juniors usually are going to a D1 school or something of higher caliber then a D3 school.
The curse lives on.....

Juniors
The trend has lately that kids have to play a year of junior A, i would guesstimate that 70% of MIAC rosters have Junior A kids on them. I know a lot of other D-III programs have many more junior kids on their teams. It is commom for D-III schools to have kids that are 24 years old.

D3
More and more D3 schools are recruiting and getting a lot of kids from juniors though. The choice of 5th line and a nice seat to watch the games at a D1 school, or 1st line and recognition at a good D3 school is a no-brainer for a lot of these kids.

Re: D3
When I played at Gustavus under Don Roberts, there were a handful of players who played Juniors before they played at the DIII level. Most players he recruited were straight out of high school. By the time I was a senior, he was recruiting more and more kids fromt he Junior ranks. Now I think you'll find that the majority of kids playing at the DIII level have played Juniors before going the DIII route (at the better DIII schools). (Also you will find a few players who were either frustrated or burnt-out from sitting or playing on the 5th line at a DI school that opt to go down and star at DIII school.)
