Is Karma Hurting Teams that Wait Too Long to Opt-up?
With some of the results lately, it makes one wonder if Karma is serving up humble pie to teams that overstay their welcome in single A.
To wit,
STA-upset in last year's section final, coughs up big lead to heavy underdog East in this year's tourney.
Hermantown-Miraculous comeback to send this year's title game into OT, only to fall a few minutes later leading to their 6th straight 2nd place finish. Also saw first significant exodus of talent this year as a few top kids went to soon-to-be AA Duluth Marshall.
Breck-Upset in last year's section final, loses to underdog in tourney QF this year.
Warroad-Hasn't been able to get by TRF or EGF for a few years now, loses top player early to Canadian Juniors this year. (Not that I think Warroad needs to opt-up, but they have been a target in the past after their many A titles.)
For Reverse karma,
BSM-Wins a couple A titles, proving they can compete just fine in AA, grows program into juggernaut that culminates in a AA title.
Bemidji-Opts up to AA, grows program to be able to get past Moorhead/Roseau and takes heavily, heavily favored Edina to the limit in this year's tourney.
GR-Goes to two straight AA titles game in late 2000's, continues to have strong program that should be top 5 in AA for the next couple years.
Cloquet-Refuses to bend to call to opt-down (so far), makes a state appearance in 2008, grows program to the point of having top ten bantam and pee wee teams that will have them rolling in a couple years.
Roseau-Wins AA title in 07, also makes state in 06, 08, 10, and 14, where they put on a solid showing against favored teams.
Beware the Hockey Gods!

Settle down, Peky. You gave it to STA every bit as hard as anyone, but when the microscope gets on your Hawks, you can't hack it.pekyman wrote:Rainer you and others only motive is to get legitimate competition out of your way. Your really getting pathetic.
Congrats to both EGF and Hermantown. Both those teams know how to win; with hard work 365 days a year. Awesome game by 2 quality programs.
Having a little fun on here, there does seem to be a trend. Argue with Froggy all you want, but please tell me when I post something false.
How else should people look at Hermantown at this point other than trophy chasing?
-Do great in A every year.
-Play AA at youth levels.
-Beat AA teams often, especially 7AA teams.
-Better than most other teams that do opt-up.
-No end in sight to their AA level talent.
You're losing talent, likely from the refusal to move up. If this continues to happen, Hermantown may realize they missed their chance to move up and compete in AA.
Go ahead and swear and get this thread locked, since you have no comeback other than calling names.
Lighten up.
Ever think that this wasn't my first account?rainier wrote:Since 07? Funny, you've only been on here since 2014. Have a sense of humor. There does appear to be a trend.statein07 wrote:Wow this is dumb did you ever play at a high level or make it to a hs state tournament?
Seriously this goes down as one of the dumbest threads I have observed since 07
Until a few years ago bantam a was the top tier for hockey bantam aa is the same as the old bantam a level...I wish people would use their brain's before using that argument...btw how long have you been around hockey? Sure doesn't sound like very long...rainier wrote:Settle down, Peky. Everyone else on here understands that the AA division is different than the old A division in youth hockey, why don't you? Oh, I know, because if you admit you understand it then your Hawks look even worse for playing AA in youth and magically becoming an A team in high school.statein07 wrote:Until a few years ago bantam a was the top tier for hockey bantam aa is the same as the old bantam a level...I wish people would use their brain's before using that argument...btw how long have you been around hockey? Hermantown bantams did not play a SINGLE Class A team this year, yet magic fairy dust will be sprinkled on them over the next 8 months that will magically transform them into players that "belong" in A. If this sounds ok to you, then I guess we all know what we need to know about you.
Keep ripping on me, I love and it only makes me want to find more stats to show how Hermantown is sandbagging. Please keep giving me motivation to point out the respect for and success of the opt up teams that sacrifice A "glory" so that they can play against the best. Teams that Hermantown beats regularly, by the way.
If you and peky are the team that has been assembled to defend the Hawks, then prepare yourself for yet another runner up trophy.
Your Hawks got 2nd place in A again, be happy!

Rainier, do you ever read what you post or do you not realize you talk out both sides of your mouth. First you tell everyone to 'lighten up' and 'settle down' when they call you out. Then you tell them to keep it coming because you love it. Which is it? Lighten up/settle down, or keep it coming? You talk about respect and success of teams like BSM that moved up? You dislike privates and want them in their own section or even tourney so why are you doing any advocating for privates to move up? You don't respect privates at all so why mention the respect they get for moving up or would get for moving up? Then you say hermantown should move up so they can play the best. Again, you want many of 'the best' in their own tourney or gone altogether from what I can tell from your rants.
The City of Hill Murray is beautiful this time of year
