Tier 1 Showcases

Post by Nevertoomuchhockey »

Wondering what you all think about this...
We know a few MN girls playing at Stoney Creek this weekend - 1 Rev 1 Blades. Looking over rosters and match-ups, and noticed these are the only two MN teams out there? Is it quality of the tourney, location, time of the year, or just that it is so much smaller (in terms of teams - 60ish, but not scouts - they claim 80ish last year.) Again, I'd just like to hear your opinions and experience. I imagine a lot of your juniors and seniors have made the rounds of all these showcases at some point.

Actually,
2 Rev & 1 Blades teams

This tourney is U19 showcase compared to last weeks Maa which has U16 teams mainly

This tourney and NAHA have historically been the best of the earlier tourneys.

As you can see , most if not all of the colleges will be there. This is a busy time for the college coaches trying to get their early commits from last season's sophmores..

Yes the Elite league has just started

I heard Stoney has requested this year for teams that have few/no "committed players" to participate. Making it easier for the recruiters to watch all. NAHA doesn't have this stipulation so many of the players not committed were able to be viewed with commits there also in that environment. This is why I believe WhiteCaps &/or IceCats aren't at Stoney this year (quite a few already committed on those teams).

Not necessarily so, the U19 teams are using their regular roster for the most part..

NAHA being Labor Day is easier for teams who travel long distances...The downside is the games are 22 min halves in round robin . Semis and finals are one 30 min period.

Stoney uses 12/12/15 periods with ot even in round robin.

Both tourneys are full and well attended

Someone pm'd me that this is invite not open. Beantown is open and growing by the year.
MN has a bunch of committed girls out there. And if you compare all of the rosters to the publicly announced pre-NLI commitments list, there are a lot of them on a lot of different teams. Girls who are undecided or unscouted have a better chance to be watched and playing against girls the scouts know are going D1 gives them a chance to evaluate their performance, good or bad, against that.
Other than me actually comparing the lists and rosters, this is second hand info from a dad who is out there right now.

The u19 Rev team could not carry the water for the top 5 A HS teams in the state. Rev u19 would get killed on a nightly basis by the top 15 AA HS teams. They are well coached and get tons of ice every day of the week but they don't have the horses. I just don't see it getting any better in the years to come. The Wolfman could be wrong but he isn't.

Lol wolfman. Tell us how you really feel! I'm surprised they would put themselves in that position - can't help get new kids into the school with a showing like that. Not sure which of the Blades teams was out there but seems they were among the top performers for the weekend. I'll be curious to see the list of coaches who attended and how it compares to the other big tourneys.
