Team Minnesota Tryouts Take #2
I have decided to start my own blog on the Team Minnesota to Europe experience. This is a 2003 tryout...better known as "03's" and definitely not Machine 02's. It is also know as the year between 2002 and 2004.
Whew!!!....Any who...here I go. I can tell you my daughter and her friends went and never enjoyed anything more. Years later I was asked back to coach and I had a blast and the kids and parents did as well. It is organized, professional and great hockey. The European teams are getting better by the day! As far as quality hockey goes, here are some numbers. Last years gold medal game for the U18 World Championships had 18 players in that game alone that had been on this trip. 65 players from last years World Championships(Russia, Finland, Sweden, etc) just last year alone were also on this trip
No this trip is not an career breaker. Is it a career maker, definitely not. Here is how I like to describe it. If you are going there just for hockey I would pass, If you are going there just for Europe I would pass. If you want the best hockey experience of your daughters life and a great well planned trip to Europe as well...It can't be beat. Anyone who calls this check book hockey doesn't get it. Tons of hockey and tons of time to take Europe in!

What does the trip cost, inclusive of travel, hotel, meals, etc.? Do you have a ballpark figure? The only $$ I can find online is that the tryout is $100.36Guy wrote:I have decided to start my own blog on the Team Minnesota to Europe experience. Cost is $2195 + airfare for about 3K. Included is all airport transportation and entire trip transportation. Not much is left out. You stay at 4 star hotels, the buses were Mercedes coaches, uniforms included, ice/tournament included. All meals for kids, breakfast for parents, pre tournament tours. For example, this year they fly into Sweden for a couple days and then take an overnight cruise to Helsinki for the tournament. It is very turn key. Again, you have to really love hockey and want to go on a vacation in Europe as well.hunting247 wrote:Trip will cost $6000-$7000 for a player and one parent
I know not everyone has the same opportunities. I do know they want to give everyone the opportunity to go. If interested you can check out:

I could have saved everyone the tryout fee and time and put this list out. This was picked well before the tryout. Wait until you get the call from them asking to contribute to their fundraiser to help pay for their trip.hunting247 wrote:Team Minnesota Roster

If this is not something you would do or support, then why not just leave it alone and choose not to contribute to their fundraiser.Gotothenetman wrote:I could have saved everyone the tryout fee and time and put this list out. I guess the question should be asked; If you knew who made it and who was on the list beforehand, then why didn't you post it before the tryout?
You could have proven how smart you are, instead of having to come on here after the fact and telling everyone how smart you are, or were.

Fifth no my daughter is not a 03 and doing just fine, but it is stuff like this that is what is wrong with youth sports today.
Sixth my guess is this group of parents are already making hotel arraignments for the 2024 Olympics.
7th you sure were sensitive to my post must have struck a nerve or maybe spilled the truth.

Nope because it should be a even playing field for all that want to have a great life experience. Not just a chosen group. Or if that is what they want to advertise a tryout just put the group together and go.hunting247 wrote:Please enlighten all of us who "controls" the 03's?Gotothenetman wrote:First of all Congrats on your daughter making the team.NORTHWOODS HOCKEY wrote: If this is not something you would do or support, then why not just leave it alone and choose not to contribute to their fundraiser.

I didn't have a daughter tryout - but I could see how you arrived at that assumption.Gotothenetman wrote:First of all Congrats on your daughter making the team.NORTHWOODS HOCKEY wrote:If this is not something you would do or support, then why not just leave it alone and choose not to contribute to their fundraiser.Gotothenetman wrote: I could have saved everyone the tryout fee and time and put this list out. When you stated, "I could have" and it was directed at what you perceived as other's ignorance, it most certainly did imply that you think you are more intelligent than others. Your follow up was full of the same type of statements.
Your absolute, opinion based statement, as if they are fact, may have struck a little nerve, but I have no involvement in this tryout or trip, so not a big nerve.
I did post a simple question. If you knew who made it, because the team was picked long before the tryout, then why didn't you post it before hand? Why wait until after? I think the answer is obvious.
I am sure the list is full of families that fall under the "what is right with youth sports" and they do plenty of good for their youth organization.

My daughter was never invited to try out, we just signed her up and she made the team. Hunting if I may ask and if your bold enough to answer honestly who does your daughter play for in the summer season? This will help provide some insight. The team doesn't matter, she was the only player from her team to tryout. I heard about the Italy trip last year and thought it would be fun to play in Europe, so I researched how to tryout. I figured you would not be bold enough to share. I will not put names on the board it is not appropriate. Well if your not one of the core like you say, but you really have not said that because your not bold enough to share. You may end up calling your own name "bitter" when you get to see the playing time on team USA because I am sure the goal will be to win at all cost for America.hunting247 wrote:Bitter table of one! And I see know your one of the "everyone gets equal playing time" parents. Ha ah that's too bad. Just because your children didn't ever make the best team or was the one who got sat you hold resentment against everyone else who succeeds in hockey where your children failed. I deal with parents like you all the time. It's really sad actually I feel bad for you I really do.Gotothenetman wrote:Well if your not one of the core like you say, but you really have not said that because your not bold enough to share. Funny I never said don't play to win at all costs. What I said was you may be bitter if your daughter does not play a lot. Unless you are part of the core which you might be then she will. I am not a fair play parent and happen to have two older players both playing college hockey. One male and one female. I get the win at all cost just hope you are ok with it and don't come back bitter after all the $$$$$ spent. Again if you are the core your fine, but you would already know that.hunting247 wrote:And I see know your one of the "everyone gets equal playing time" parents. Ha ah that's too bad.
