You can find the audio stream for all CEC Lumberjack hockey here: http://www.northwoodsradio.com/livestreaming.htmlTheHockeyDJ wrote:Cloquet opened with a 4-1 win at home over Moundsview on Sat., Duluth Marshall will be playing their first game tomorrow. This one will be played in Cloquet.

Yes, the Lumberjacks were flying around the ice Saturday afternoon against Mounds View. Duluth Marshall presents a nice early season 7AA clash. Welcome to AA hockey Duluth Marshall. Section and state playoffs much more difficult playing with the big boys. It's all good. Should be a great game

Tell that to the teams they've played in previous years. And Hermantown. Lol.

It's probably worth noting that Marshall is down its top returning forward for a few games (due to soccer red cards...yes, soccer red cards) and one of their better D is out hurt. Not good for a young, fairly thin team in its first game of the year.
But yes, I think Cloquet is going to make some noise this year. There's some good young talent coming along there. I was impressed by their 4-1, lopsided shot win over Mounds View, too.

[quote="rainier"]7-0 final. Shots 35-16 Cloquet.
Is Cloquet better than many thought or are the Hilltoppers worse?
Analysis of the game, Kniven?[/quote
Well I tell you. I was talking to a Duluth East super fan tonight. He said it was interesting none of our players got upset Koby Bender left. I think that's because we've got 18 kids who play hockey really as a team. Our young kids coming up are prepared really well in the youth hockey ranks. Our first two games have been really interesting in that we just keep playing hard. Only 4 senior skaters. We were skating circles around Marshall tonight. Esse even starting rolling 4 lines in the second period. It's really fun to watch. We've got Bloomington Jefferson on Friday. I love this high school hockey stuff. Just gets harder as the season rolls along

Nice game by CEC, hard working group. They are relentless after the puck and crash the net hard. They have some D that can snipe from the point too. They may not have an NHL draft pick in the lineup, but they move their feet and work as a team.

Sheesh. Just another reason to hate soccer.karl(east) wrote:It's probably worth noting that Marshall is down its top returning forward for a few games (due to soccer red cards...yes, soccer red cards) and one of their better D is out hurt. Agreed. Soccer ruins lives. Just say no.Mite-dad wrote:Sheesh. Cloquet is scrappy as ever. What they lack in talent they make up in effort. Love Esse's no non sense, old style of hockey. Kids love playing for him and work their tales off knowing they have to outwork more talented teams. Cloquet has some young studs coming up. That Nelson kid is going to turns some heads this year.
Esse is known for getting the most out of the talent he has. Should be fun to watch the Jacks as these great classes come through, although it looks like they are getting an early start.JohnnyBuck wrote:Cloquet is scrappy as ever. All the best to Koby Bender in his NAHL career (and hopefully beyond), but one does wonder if he couldn't have been part of a team that could have pulled off a big 7AA playoff upset.
More likely the 2 Hermantown boys that are already on DM are wishing they were back home!Wet Paint wrote:Looks like DM is going to have to drag the tackle through the Hermantown area to see if any of those kids are looking for an opportunity to move up and play some big boy hockey.pekyman wrote:Seems to me that DM needed much more than a couple missing players to change the outcome of this beat-down.

Duluth Marshall has an awesome hockey program. They'll get another crack at us later in the season. I hope both teams have all their players for the next game so the win isn't a fluke like this one was.Schotzy wrote:They were missing another kid from Superior due to someone bringing up eligibility rules that turned out to be incorrect. That player was one of Superior's best last season, so that hurt too. Three of DM's best players were not on the ice that night.
Man. It would be awesome if we could beat a team that has all there players and/or the players they should have. Oh well.kniven wrote:Duluth Marshall has an awesome hockey program. I don't know if it will make a difference the next time or not. DM has a young team, and they will probably take some lumps this season. Their future is incredibly bright though. A lot of young talent.kniven wrote:Man. It would be awesome if we could beat a team that has all there players and/or the players they should have. That being said, Cloquet looks really good, and I think their future is very bright as well. I hope both teams can give the traditional 7 AA powers a run for their money for a few years.
