Wayzata
Not too early to start the annual debate about Wayzata. A few pundits had them in lower top 10 picks, and many others low top 15.
They beat a decent MG team Friday night in OT, a game I did not watch
They beat a consensus top 5 Edina team Saturday night. A deserving win all around. Full house incl full student sections at both ends, something rarely seen nowadays. Trojans looked steady ,composed, and fairly disciplined (which I understand was somewhat different from Friday night). Got contributions from a wide variety of kids. A core of experienced seniors, lots of interesting juniors, and a few top notch sophomores. Not to dwell on any one kid at the expense of others so early in the season, but there were a few kids aside from the more known names who peaked my interest. Greeninger picked up 2 goals. Another was Stevens who was always around the puck and 100% hustle through every shift. Another was Kubinski. Schilling may be the best goalie in the state. I was impressed beyond my expectations with this team performance, which going in I would have guessed a loss by 3 goals. They werent flashy on offense and not a lot of crowd gasps, but steady and most importantly got the job done with team effort against a much more highly touted team
A tough followup next weekend at HT and DE.
Thoughts from the Trojan faithful and others?

Just because it's early doesn't mean people can't post their observations and voice their opinions based on what they've seen. No reason to go on attack mode.Nuts&Bolts wrote:Going DJ on us already Westy? Until some of these teams have 5 games under the belt its simply to early. Yes Wayzata is a top 15 team. We'll have a better idea where they likely fall in the top 15 around Christmas. Until then dwell and promote your names.

Yes I was terribly offended and need to find a "safe zone" like they have at many colleges these days...Maybe the moderators can set something up here...just so it's "Edina free" - OK to attack cake anytime.Nuts&Bolts wrote:Brilliant but thanks (and lighten up a bit to find the humor). Generally not one to defend Edina but its probably fair to presume they'll need more time to come together this year compared to a team like Wayzata. Hopefully you don't feel attacked. I'd hate to hurt your feelings.

We'll set up a safe space with juice boxes, soothing music, and cake...oh, wait. That last one is going to trigger something, isn't it?MNHockeyFan wrote:Yes I was terribly offended and need to find a "safe zone" like they have at many colleges these days...Maybe the moderators can set something up here...just so it's "Edina free" - OK to attack cake anytime.Nuts&Bolts wrote:Brilliant but thanks (and lighten up a bit to find the humor). I was at the Friday night games and found myself more impressed with Maple Grove than Wayzata most of that game. I didn't see Saturday's games but was surprised at both results, I thought Edina would take Wayzata and Maple Grove would challenge Holy Family. Of course HF was without Will Garin on Friday so even though he didn't score on Saturday I assume he was a difference maker. I think Maple Grove could be an interesting watch this year and could find themselves ranked eventually, especially if their goalie plays like he did against Wayzata. He was very impressive, I look forward to catching more MG games thru ought the season. What do others think of Maple Grove this season?
It's not the Best players, it's the Right players! HB
MG looked like a one line team...
the turkey trot went as expected in my opinion...
wayzata being more experienced was the team to beat...
HF and Edina are just too young at this point...
later in the year both will be handful to beat, but early in the year both will have its learning experiences...
i can see edina losing 7-8 games this year, easily... tough schedule, toughest division... it could possibly finish behind EP, wayzata and tonka....
the top the teams are tonka, ep and bemidji...
take that to the bank.

Would need to see more from the Bemidji squad to say they're a title contender... let alone need to start looking for a deposit slip. I didn't see a great performance from them up in Moorhead, or anything to get overly excited about. Granted, those were scrimmages, but a one goal win to start the season isn't exactly a dominant performance either.cigar wrote:MG looked like a one line team...
