Bemidji at Grand Rapids Tues 11/24

Post by elliott70 »

Good beginning of the year test for both teams.

Bemidji will again be without starting forward Rocky Kopisky due to an emergency appendectomy a week or so ago. He will not be back until mid-December.
Soph Matt Fitzgerald had a good game against St Cloud Apollo, but coach has said both goalies will get a chance so not sure who will start tonight.

Anyone with update on GRapids?

I see you can stream all GR home games in HD, but it costs $40! C'mon man!
The used The Cube last year and that was free. Why the change?

I really want to watch this game, but not so bad that I'll pay $40.

KOZY audio stream it is then.

I think GRs talent wins this one on home ice. Bemidji is good and experienced at both F and D, but goaltending is too questionable right now for a team as good as GR.

GRHShockey.com did the video last year and they are not officially affiliated with the school. This year the school wanted control of the video steam and of course money. $40 is nothing if you're a fan of the school.

Here is a link for the grhshockey season preview: http://www.grhshockey.com/news_article/ ... ferrer_id=

There is also a game preview on the main page.

I would have thought Bemidji would have done better vs Apollo on home ice than squeaking out a 2-1 win. Rapids won in Bemidji 7-4 last year, I expect a little bit closer game this time (was 7-1 and BJI got a few goals late). I'll be looking to see if Klatt has fixed their issues with slow starts which he mentioned as something to address during the offseason on KOZY. The other thing will be defensive zone coverage. I haven't heard if Bischoff is playing or not tonight.

Don't sell Apollo short.
Lot of people did last year but hey did pretty good. Apollo is very good on D with a very good goalie.

But we will see tonight.
Bemidji has a lot coming back (1 main one out tonight and for a while) but also have some young ones in key roles (as does GR I am told). Not matter how it goes it will be a good early test for the players and the coaches.

Good luck to both and pray for no injuries.

I'd like to see Bemidji go 24-1, as long as that loss is tonight. 8)

Interesting choice by Klatt to start the senior goalie instead of the wunderkind who played in the Elite League. Sending a message that everything must be earned, perhaps?

Its opening night. Why not let the senior start the rotation? Wouldn't be surprised to see three different starters in goal this week.

I was surprised as well that Burt got the start in goal, but I trust Klatt knows what he's doing. I would think Stejskal and Holum get a chance to start within the next two weeks. At Virginia in the least would be a good place for a sophomore to get a shot. I didn't see a lot of the game because the video feed wasn't working that well for me and I had to miss the 3rd period. Tough for GR to give up a W with 7 seconds left, but it was a hard fought game between a couple top teams in the state. GR needs to take care of business vs Minnetonka. BSM sounds like they are in mid-season form already, so that is going to be a tall task. Bemidji should be fine in 8AA as long as they don't have an off night in sections.

I was surprised at the low score. Listening to the GR people on this board with their top 2 lines I figured we would see triple digits at some point. Also the fact that he started a Sr with 2 wonder boys on the bench does not surprise me. They did the same thing last year and carried a 3 goalie rotation into January I think (would have to look to make sure but won't since it does not really matter) and it bit them then too.

Leitner playing at Bemidji? Or did he leave for Juniors?

Sounds like a tie was a fitting end to this close game. Fitzgerald must have looked good in the first two games, you don't hold Rapids to 1 goal by accident

Yes, he played. Bemidji impressed with their overall speed and effort. It seemed Rapids had the edge in puck control time but it seemed the Jacks had more legit scoring chances. Both goalies played well in this very entertaining game. If the Rapids D-men start making the simple plays that would cut down on the other teams quality chances.

Would have loved to watch these 2 beat on each other. Assuming IRA was packed? Heard there was even a Donny Lucia sighting?! Trying to re-live his glory days? :) :) :)

This was a good game. Both goalies played well, the teams were defensively sound. They are both fast and both can play physical. Hard to use one game, but it looked like both are top 10 teams.

So where was the break down at for Rapids? I keep hearing about this 2 line combo they have who are going to light the place up and they only scored 1 goal.

Bemidji is a top 10 team as well, so I don't really know what the problem is. To say Rapids must of had a breakdown is kind of a slam on a very good Bemidji squad. Jonah Bischoff who was on the top line last year was out with an injury. Both teams had very good goaltending. But you know, nothing like the good old knee-jerk reactions we see every year after one game. Everyone had Duluth East as a 5 seed in 7AA in January and look what happened.

Spoken like a true fan of an overrated team! "good old knee-jerk reactions we see every year after one game"....or nothing like a Indian fan with black and orange colored glasses on annointing the boys of IRA 2016 state champs back in July.

Was not really slamming Bemidji in that but to listen to the Rapids faithful in this site you would think that Bischoff being out would not have mattered much as they still had the others who were gonna light it up so I assumed that they broke down someplace.
