i agree with slapshooter. warroad, by far proved to be the best team in the state statistically. nobody beat them. not moorhead, not aha, not nobody. argue all you want till your blue in the face. warroad is the best. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o">

i know holy angels beat moorhead, and moorhead tied warroad. but moorhead was without a doubt the better team saturday night against holy angels. the stars are a great team, dont get me wrong, but who can honestly say that had the moorhead tenders played half as well as they had all season that moorhead wouldn't have won? it was obvious to me and everyone in my section anyway, and i wasn't in the moorhead section. that being said, warroad is hands down the best team in the state. ZERO LOSSES!!! tying the best AA team in the state (regardless of whose goalie played better saturday night). warroad was amazing, as was moorhead, but warroad never lost so i'm going with them. had warroad lost to totino, i would say moorhead was the best team in the state. just my 2 cents. congratulations to all the teams at the state tournament. you had great seasons and good luck next year.

so moorhead was the better TEAM saturday night? that could never be right, a team is offense, defense, and goaltenders. so no, moorhead was not the better team in the championship game. did they outskate and outshoot aha? definitely outshot them and maybe outskated them a little bit, but did they ultimately win the GAME? no. you cant say MAYBE if moorheads goalies had played better they would have won, it doesnt matter, they didnt, and the better team on that night won. as for warroad being the best team in the state. .. i dont think you can say that at all. yes, they went undefeated and are definitely one of the top 4 teams in the state, but thats all you can say for them. they tied moorhead, who lost to wb and aha, and warroad did not play either of these teams. until they play aha and wb this year, which obviously isnt going to happen, you cant call warroad the best team in the state. moorhead got beat by a better TEAM last night, and warroad cannot say they beat the state champion in aha. look at the competition in aa vs. a, obviously its better in aa than a, so until warroad beats aha, aha is the best team in the state this year, period!

starsalum, We were in a suite above the AHA students. We had a perfect view of the disputed play. It wasnt even close.

iceman you are correct, the goalie is part of the team. Usually you will not have a better team if your goalie can't stop anything.

Warroad played a better game at the tournament and would have beat both AHA and Moorhead on that day. Both the Moorhead and Warroad coaches were out-coached by AHA and TG. They both found a way to be in the game against a superior offensive team. Warroad still had the skills to overcome it. Moorhead had poor goaltending and less intensity that Warroad. Warroad did not adjust to TG collapsing around the goal. There is no doubt that the privates could and should all compete in Class AA. Warroad can not play all their games in the metro area. For a Far North team they did play a lot of major teams. How far is it from Warroad to MPLS?

After watching most of the top rated teams in the state play throughout the season, I continue to believe that Moorehead is the most talented top to bottom. The wonderful thing about this game is anything can and usually does happen at the state tournament. I think most would agree that during the tournament, teams like WBL outplayed and should have defeated DE. "The jinx is alive and well 0-17 in the first round". White Bear is thinking of changing their name from the Bears to the Cubs. That with the talent AHA has they should have dominated Tartan from the drop of the puck but give credit to Tartan, they battled from beginning to end. They didn't understand that they weren't supposed to have the talent to play with AHA. They may have been less skilled but played with tons of heart. That's why this tournament is second to none. In my opinion the AA championship was decided by coaching and Trebil clearly and definitively was the major reason AHA is now the AA Champ. As far as who is the best between the AA champ and the A champ. You can debate till the end of time. The only way we'll ever get close to making that determination is to have the two champs play each other. I realize this will probably never happen but it sure would be fun. And don't you think the high school league would make a couple of bucks off the deal? They could then divert the revenue dollars to support the girls tournament at the Excel.

Great weekend of hockey. Two great championship games to watch. So much skilled hockey in the AA game. What an effort by both teams, and phenomenal finish in class A. Watched some great individual players, from 8th graders to high school seniors. Very enjoyable end of the year tournaments. But, we still do not know which team is the State Champion.

First of all, congrats AHA. As a Spud fan I am again disappointed. We bring decent talent to the each tournament and we continually are out coached. At the beginning of each season the Moorheads Youth Program gives the High School coaches a handful of talented players, and each year the coaches blow it for the players.

I love this stuff! "Moorhead is the most talented team in the state!" That's great, the moment a skills competition is used to determine the state champ, let me know! Moorhead got plain outcoached! Trebil saw some stuff (he even admitted it during the 2nd intermission) that they could take advantage of, and they did. Moorhead simply collapsed like they usually do. Moorhead's coach pulled the goalie early and he simply spazed! If I was a Moorhead supporter, why wouldn't you be calling for this guy's head after Saturday night? "But he got us this far!" That's great! I think half of the people on this board could have gotten Moorhead to the state title game with their talent. The difference is that Holy Angels didn't melt down, and Moorhead did. Their players did, but that's not hard to comprehend since their were probably just followling the lead of their coach! As for Warroad, I do recognize them as a state title winner! I don't take away from what they've accomplished, and for that, I congratulate them. Would they go undefeated if they would have played in a city conference? Probably doubtful, but they would have been an upper tier team, for sure. But the fact is that, like it or not, Warroad won't get the respect because it was A. People in the cities respect the likes of a Roseau because they said "screw the size, we're going to take on the big boys and beat them" and they did it in 1999 and went to state in '98 & '00. People see that and they respect that. Do you think you could have beaten Moorhead in Section 8 to go to the AA state tournament? If so, why not be the fan favorite and take on Holy Angels in a title game? That would be the most dramatic game EVER! So like it or not, Warroad won't get that respect from cities fans! Perhaps unjust, but true! As for the undefeated argument, people forget that Holy Angels lost 1 game, and that was to Shattuck-St. Mary's, who isn't allowed to participate in the MSHSL tournament. Should that loss really be counted against them when it comes to a debate topic on who the best team is and people say it's one team because they're undefeated? Just add Moorhead to a list of "more talented teams to NOT win!" -'97 Michigan hockey -'98 Ohio State football -'97 Duluth East -'98 Minnesota Vikings -'04 North Dakota Fighting Sioux hockey -'95 Jefferson -'91 UNLV -'97 Kansas Jayhawks -'99 Duke Blue Devils The list can go on and on. The difference with Moorhead, though, is that they don't know how to win! Holy Angels, and Trebil, do!

I am having a good time right now because i have all the leverage. my team won and that's the bottom line. At the end of the night we were the ones walking away winners.
