Hockey in Southwest Minnesota was in its infancy at the time, Brown recalled.
“The first year, we had no wins until mid-January,” he said.
“It’s amazing to think that five years later we were at state,” Brown said.
Brown’s parents Wally and Elaine Brown still live in Milaca, but spend a lot of time rooting for the red of Luverne instead of the red of the Wolves.
Wally Brown is the former volleyball and wrestling coach at Pierz High School, and brings a lot of knowledge to his son.
“Dad, he helps out a lot,” Brown said. “He was a role model for me growing up, so it’s been great.”
Wally and Elaine are on the road a lot as honorary Cardinal fans.
This proves how strange it was
So if his name is Wally, why did you call him trout?
When I coined the nickname nobody had a clue it was him. Trout rhymes with scout. Now bear in mind there has never been a confession or anything. However, quite the coincidence with trout not posting all season. Especially given the ultra in depth previews and predictions be used to provide.

The ability to write in depth previews and prediction of 3A hockey must have been a gift. Is there any talk about a reunion celebrating Luverne's 1st trip to state? Perhaps a parade of sorts.

Biggest win for that program ever.
Congrats to Stremcha and crew.
Carry on.
I might argue their biggest win came last week when they beat NU in OT. After all NU has been at the top of the section for 10 years or so. 4 section titles in the last 6 years and a bunch of section final appearances. Either way beating the likes of NU and the cards is a heck of an accomplishment. I would say stremca has them pointed in the right direction.

No kidding. Maybe we should shift the Cardinal focus off the Luverne ones and onto the Redwood Valley ones. RV had a large group of youngsters two years back (9th and 10th graders) and they seem to be making a nice run this season.
Their leading scorer by a wide margin -Bailey Sommers- is tied with Smedsrud at #2 in the state for goal scoring. He had a hattrick in that 4-3 win over the Deep Southwest Cardinals.
So, any Redwood Valley fans out there want to give us the scoop on your Cardinals?

Hope that the Redwood talent is legit, because it's needed! However if you look at the Luverne team a bulk of that team are sophomores.
16 pages is nothing, back when this area was Section 1A, Albert Lea, Austin, Mankato East and West, no Litch no Hutch, we were ripping out like 50 pages, but it was mostly game previews and recaps, emphasis on all, not just Luverne. It was borderline reality TV junk, but sadly there was way more feeling of community even then. This has just become a Luverne brag or bash thread, which is sad. You wanted attention, I guess you got it.

Did he get a trophy for accomplishing such an honor? Maybe a dirt road named after him in Luverne?

Golden Goldy!!
The big red faithful must be happy Coach Stremcha didn't pull his goalie at the end of this game. They might have lost by 5 or 6.

If you find out let me know. I'd like to book one of their woodsheds to stay in for that weekend. Have to imagine the Hilton will be booked with all the Luverne fans that don't live in Luverne.
Thanks for sharing, now I won't need to watch top 10 on SportsCenter tonight.
No problem. I figured you and Sats would hate to miss it.
Heard some rumors they may just show big red highlights at the hockey camps now. Instructors won't have to do any work and prices won't be as expensive.

He deserves a lot of credit in that win. He had a good game plan and the players followed through. Congrats to Redwood. Great win for that program. Hopefully they can keep building.
Redwood Valley knocked off Marshall 5-3 in Redwood Falls on Tuesday. RV lost in Marshall 11-3 earlier in season. These Cardinals might be making a nice end-of-season move that gives them a higher ranking for the section playoffs.

Redwood will not make it out of the first round.....
