I'll take East to win both. I've seen this movie before.

I agree, East will win both. I think East will get the 2 or 3, Elk River the other. GR will play winner of DM/CEC. Gonna be really surprised if East loses a game this week.

GPGT wrote:What happened with east in the last few weeks or so.. ?? Seeing alot of 7-1 games , yes, against weaker teams , but the goal production is up quite a bit..was there alot of line swapping?

Last game I saw them play was a sad sad game against Marshall and Andover. Not that this late season win streak is abnormal, but this is clearly the weakest team in the past 9-10 years.
Some line-swapping happened, yes, and I think the top two they've got now should stay in place. They've got six forwards who should be able to score routinely, and are finally doing so. The defense has 4-5 solid, experienced players, the goalie seems to have settled in.

I do think this team, talent-wise, is better than last year (it's most of the same core a year older)...it's also probably deeper than the 14 team (though no Beaulieu-like presence), and could give some of the 06-08 teams a run. They've just taken a frustratingly long time to put it all together. We'll see if they continue to build on this.

5 wins in a row for DEast is nice. But only one of those opponents has a winning record and no big wins in that opponents resume.

Might have been just what they needed to find their swagger....

The "suddenly stumbling" Elks with a nice win tonight over the Chiefs who had won 7 in a row. Still no Zerban and Perbix suspended. See you Saturday, Elks will still show up to face the "righted ship" Hounds. The game should give us some clarity on where East is at. 1 seed or not the 3 horse race should be fun.

Al! getting a little lippy like Sats! I like it. Elks still the team to beat in 7AA despite the GR and DE PR Machines all over the place trying to get everyone to believe something else. Another big text for Elks without Zerban and Perbix.

The "Duluth East PR Machine" seems to consist mainly of Rapids fans who are saying they've seen this script before.

East has won a few nice games in a row, but it takes a little more than this to get most of us excited. When you've been there before, you have certain standards.

Nice win for Elky. Anyone who thought they were just going to trail off into the night was probably thinking wishfully.

Tough loss for the Cougars, Goaltending was the difference tonight. Cougars will bounce back and still think they we give Blaine a run.

Word at the rink Zerban out for a two more weeks. Hounds benefit from Zerban and Perbix out, Hounds by 4 on Saturday.

Good point Karl. IMO opinion East found themselves last year when they went to ER and played the Jaremko juggernaut toe to toe. Walking out of the rink I heard some East parents talking about what a confidence builder it was. Similar motivation this year, although these groups have played each other plenty through YH, no big secrets and a second meeting will be the most important. Great rivalry, glad SARS and Randolph started this years ago.

Karl, I know you don't do your normal seedings on the rankings post. That said I think tomorrow's East/CEC game is the last game to have any significant impact in what the seeds will look like. Where are we now, and what do you believe happens as a result either way after tomorrow night. I think based on overall season result that Forest Lake is a 6 seed. Though last I looked at QRF they had FL 5 and CEC 6.

QRF is about as useful as a two-legged horse, and I don't think there's any evidence of anyone ever using it.

I think Rapids is #1 unless they lose to someone other than Holy Family.

If East beats Cloquet and doesn't do anything stupid down the stretch, I'd give them #2. A tie with CEC or a bad loss against Hopkins or something, and they're 3.

Elk River can go no lower than 3, and there's no real big difference between 2 and 3 anyway.

A second Cloquet win Elky #2 and 3 vs. 4 interesting; East's regular season is so much stronger than Cloquet's, but 4 section losses is a lot.

The rest, I think, are locked in:

5. Marshall
6. Flake
7. St. Francis
8. Andover
9. Cambridge

Does anyone know when the seeding meeting is? It's normally the Wednesday of the last week of the season, but it looks like a few teams have games that night.

Karl, don't disagree on your seeding thoughts, GR has some quality wins and their only losses are to BSM,LN,EP,ER, Htown and Wayzata. Elks like last year only can hang their hats on a few quality wins, LN and GR. ER plays Hill on the seeding night and a win would help them but might be to late. East also has 2 wins over top teams, Wayzata and ER. Full body of work looks to favor GR but if it is close and they want to discount the 6-2 ER win over GR than we can possibly discount the East win over ER and look at East's losses early. Still enough games left to change things and ER still looking to get all their players on the ice.

When will the full lineup return? Elks will get 3 come seeding despite the shellacking they put on rapids, it is all about the revenues and elks hit east at a bad time. Section wants an East - Rapid final and will align accordingly. Any spoilers lurking? Cloquet?

Can't beat a Rapids-East section final. Best atmosphere in all of high school sports.

Guess not on the trap game, East is dialed in. Thought they might be looking ahead to Hockey Day. Up 6-3 later in the 3rd. Will be even more impressed if they can play well against LN.
