Finally the year of the Hawks?

Post by hockeyfan2612 »

Hermantown is the favorite to take it all this year in class A. How far will the Hawks make it this year?

Also I am sorry about the poll. Knocked out in sections was supposed to be an option.

Without knowing the seeding in advance, I'm going to guess they either lose to Apollo in the semi's, or to whomever makes it to the title game.

Their seniors have been watching (and now playing with) Hawks teams that have been losing titles games since they were in about the sixth grade. That's more than a proverbial monkey on their back, that's part of their psyche...

I think Breck is the only team in Class A capable of beating Hermantown. The Hawks have beaten 6 top ten A teams with overall relative ease, along with beating good AA teams like Wayzata and Rapids. The teams they lost to, Bemidji and Minnetonka, are both top ten AA teams.

However, Breck can be beaten by Mahtomedi or Apollo, so they may have a very tough semifinal game to get through before they even get a chance at Hermantown.

But, if they do meet the Hawks, I think the six straight runner-ups are an advantage for Breck, as that pressure will be on Hermantown's mind.

If they both make it to state and then the title game, I think it would be the first time that Hermantown would be the clear favorite over a metro private in the title game.

If they don't win it this year I don't know if they ever will. If you ask me, this is their most talented team in comparison to the other class A teams. I am not saying this is their best team ever, but when you look at the past few years between STA, EGF and Mahtomedi last year, they all had comparable talent levels. When looking at this year, I think they are clearly a step ahead of Breck, Apollo and Mahtomedi.

Well, I for one will be pulling for the Hawks to finally win it all, I love to see a feel good story at the State Tournament. I think Bruce Plante, his players and the good people of Hermantown deserve to bring the trophy home for all they have been thru the past six years at the tournament. That loss to St Thomas was brutal and painful. Who knows, maybe if they get a class A Championship they WILL decide to move up and go for the AA crown. I have no horse in the class A race as I am from the south metro and support a couple of AA teams in the south suburban conference, but I get tired of all the Hermantown/Plante trashing on here. Most of the so called experts on here that think they know everything about Hermantown most likely don't know a quarter of what they think they know. Nuff said .. Go Hawks !!

Well that's what Vikings fans have been saying for 50 years. Cubs fans have been saying it for 108 years. England soccer fans have been saying it for 50 years. Although at least the Hawks and Cubs and England have one title!! One thing these teams have in common is bad luck. Vikings missing winning field goals, Cubs Steve Bartman, England missing penalty kicks. Hermantown fluke goals and bad calls by refs.
