An experienced hockey mind like yours actually wonders if Duluth East has a chance? Did they have a chance last year against the feared Elks or Rapids? C'mon man, y'all know better than to count out the Hounds. East just needs to worry about the semis. When they get to section finals, they win.

It took 24 hours but I got you to bite.

But seriously, last year things came together, the coach managed a smoke and mirror trick AND the goalie did what goalies do to be champions.

I don't see that happening.
Things are not clicking real well, the goalie is good but will he step up, and the coach's mind is elsewhere.

Elk River 5
DEast 2.
Nah, you're just worried that Buttmidji will meet East at State. And lose.

I'd hate to say it but I see this going the way you see it. I'm hoping they prove me wrong again.

I wouldn't say things aren't clicking right now for East, it's just that they didn't put up 7 goals like ER did. Defense is fine and goalie play is fine. The offense will find it. Andover for some reason is just a bad match up for East. Like stated above though, they also played ER to a 1 goal game so who knows. I would have rather seen East play Flake too, just seemed like an easier draw. I get it though, they took OT to beat LVS and Hopkins, but defense hasn't been the issue. I'd rather have good solid D and hope the offense finds it than have a bad D corp and a good Offense that goes flat for a game.

Last year things weren't exactly clicking ever. Even during the sections they never really put a full game together. They played two real good periods against Rapids and almost lost it in the 3rd. They played 2 good periods against ER and stole it from them. Then they stole the game from STA and Edina before being outplayed the whole way by Lakeville North.

If Buttmidji makes it, they may get the 4 or 5 seed at best.
DEast would not get seeded, so things would have to fall right for those two to see each other.
So not worried about that.
I think GR deserves a shot despite DJ.
I think ER will win.

The East demise has been coming ever since Randolph's son graduated. That was several years ago now. Last year was and probably should have been ER's, but it wasn't. Mr. Hockey and the only time I can really remember them being a clear favorite.

The East v. GR game last year was controlled by East for the first two periods and then Rapids came out in the 3rd and played the best hockey I have ever seen them play, but East held on.

This year's East team is deeper and more skilled. If Randolph gets them going like he has done so many times in the past, they will be very hard to beat.

That said it's wide open this year with all 3 top teams having a shot. By the way if Rapids overlooks Cloquet they could be in for a surprise - that team can skate and get after the puck and Johnson is a crafty dangerous player as is Kuhlman.

Grand Rapids isn't overlooking anyone. Trent Klatt won't allow it to happen.

That would be a disaster for fans of NE Minnesota hockey. Cloquet has zero chance of doing anything at State, and Elk River representing 7AA would be akin to St Michael or Rogers doing the same in 8AA -- blasphemous -- and rendering the State Tournament a bore fest.

Wow. Well I have a different perspective there "mouth". You see, if winning was a priority, I think CEC would be playing "dolls" with Hermantown in A playoff hockey. Lumberjack hockey, "I believe" plays AA hockey because "Tonka trucks" are more fun then "dolls". We want to compete with the best win or loose, in my opinion. I am going to scream and cheer for whichever team represents our very competitive 7AA section in our State of Hockey. I love my Jacks for competing with the best in the playoffs. -just me

I commend your allegiance to Cloquet hockey. I commend anyone's allegiance to, and love of, Minnesota boys hockey - period. But I want to see a team from up here win, and what I really want to see is a 'IRC' team win. It's been 36 years since that happened, something I never would have believed after growing up watching Falls, Greenway, Hibbing and Rapids not only win titles, but field perennial favorites. Now, I just want the best team from NE Minnesota to represent 7AA. And that team ain't Cloquet. In 2-3 years, when the current crop of Cloquet pee wee and bantam players make the high school squad, maybe it will be.

True, but my point is that it was just as unlikely that Howg would have pulled that out last year as it is that Meierhoff will this year. And if you think that East only won that game because of Howg, you might want to go back and review the first two periods. It's hard to win games when you're only the better team in one of three--even if that one is very lopsided.

Wrong thread then. I did a google search & came up with 92.1 The Fan's website, advertising that they're streaming the games at Amsoil today. You'd have to download the IHeartRadio app if you don't have it already.

Exactly, Hounds. That is what I was questioning and hinting at with my earlier post in this thread.

East has won this tournament 7 years in a row. Unless somebody finds a way to beat them- it will be 8.

What I want to know is the sky falling for East? Sure, they only won 2 to 1 against Andover, but didn't Andover just play Elk River to a one goal game? Let's be real here... Sure East only won by one but if the shots in goal were really 40 ish to 10 ish against Andover, the sky isn't falling. That means Andover was getting one shot every five minutes of game time. That makes that 2 to 1 game look quite dominant.

Pair that with the fact East beat Elk 5 to 2 earlier this year and you need to keep in mind this is the same section tournament that East normally owns.... Am I missing something here?
What you are missing is that ER was short top line players against the Hounds, Grand Rapids is the best team, Cloquet has a nice coach, and DEast sux.

I don't like to get too far out on a limb. :)

It may be a simple quote but it is definitely true.

If GR can get by CEC I may make the trek from Green Bay Thursday. Hoping anyway.

The uncomfortable feeling should be more at ease with this start.
