Biggest upset on Saturday?

Post by hermantown2000 »

What was the most shocking upset on a Saturday that saw several top ranked teams sent home packing?
1.CDH over BSM
2. Prior Lake over Minnetonka
3. Maple Grove over Blaine
4. Anoka over Centennial
5. Little Falls over Apollo

Tough to pick between bsm, Blaine and Apollo.

Pretty bummed about the blaine loss. Was looking forward to seeing them at state this year.

Top 5 from the final Let's Play Hockey Rankings:
1 - BSM
2 - Stillwater
3 - Minnetonka
4 - Holy Family Catholic
5 - Blaine

#1, #3, #4, AND #5 are DONE! Does anyone remember that many top teams all losing in the section semis?

I'm sure it's happened. Kind of similar to the #1, 2, 3, and 4 seed being eliminated in the state 1/4 finals a few years ago..

If Stillwater loses to Totino Grace, it will be the first time four #1 seeds lost in the Class AA section semifinals, going back to at least 1999. I didn't look back further than that.

Three #1 seeds lost in the semis in 2009.

All #1 seeds won their semifinal game in 2011, 2012 and 2015.

In no year did all eight #1's advance to State.

Twice did a #1 seed lose in their section quarterfinal; Tartan in 2009, Wayzata in 1999.

Keep in mind I'm only looking at Class AA.

It would be great to see Grace beat Stillwater.

Yeah, wouldn't that be something? Meant to say White Bear Lake. Trying to figure out what those two schools have in common other than the obvious.

I looked back to 1992 (start of 2 class system) and it doesn't appear to have happened. Single class is hard as there were multiple one seeds in some sections with them ranking them 1E/1W or 1N/1S.

We're talking "upsets", not "anticipated annual event"

Hey, I feel sort of bad for the Elks. I hope someday after they leave 7AA they get back to state. :)

Well I had lobbied last two years they should have moved to 8 when Marshall moved up, in which case they would be facing either Jack or Spuds in finals this week

I guess you don't have too much clout with the HS League?
