Class AA State Tournament is all Public Schools
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
goes back to what I said last year, so many complaints about private schools and yet here we are, none of them made it to the X. I don't recall who said it earlier but, it's the state tournament there will always be interest, this is a great opportunity for new storylines etc to emerge. Burnsville absolutely slaughtered STA so I'll be cheering for them. Isn't there concern in Burnsville re: the future of their entire hockey association due to dwindling numbers? Great story right there.
I've also never fully understood why STA gets so much more hate than HF. The only logical reason I can find is that HF did the right thing and moved up right away? I'm not proud of STA taking as long as it did to move up, and genuinely realize there's some shame attached to those last few titles, but still. If you look at what's gone on at HF, I don't think it would take long to check everything off the "private school hate" hitlist. But maybe you deserve a pass if you did the right thing and moved up right away or if you've never won a big game in the history of your program. Come to think of it, neither has STA
We are only a few teams away from having a fantastic, pure Class A tournament, and I believe this years AA bracket shows that it's already a beautiful, unpredictable mess.
I actually think the only way people would lose any interest at all in the state tournament would be if the maximum amount of AA private schools made it. Having a private school narrative at the X adds more fuel to the fire, and not having them there opens up opportunities for some new rivalries, storylines, and the like. To everyone who deeply dislikes and wants private schools thrown out altogether, please enjoy this tournament, because we won't be gone for long
. I know I will!

won't fight you on that one. I'd have to cheer for Edina too. It's less mentioned re: hill because you guys have been so good for so long.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote:I know we are the most hated team in the state. I'd argue that. It's because when Edina-HM play, there's more ticket buyers for Edina than Hill. And the general hockey fans would rather just sit it out than cheer for either.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote:I know we are the most hated team in the state. Last year's Duluth game would be my point; 20,000 people were standing & screaming because of who they were about to beat.
Then again, probably doesn't matter to argue; both are hated.

It's easy to tell if it's neutral fans or Edina fans. I'm talking about people seated outside of the team sections, who don't jump up and enthusiastically clap/cheer ut just stay in their seats and applaud in a polite manner. Of course Edina fans could buy tickets anywhere, but the behavior is what gives it away.Doc Holliday wrote:I'd argue that. Also, if it's a game Edina wins, they only get some applause for the first goal, and virtually nothing after that. Edina fans wouldn't stop applauding Edina goals.
