I believe I heard Jeff Corkish at Hastings resigned as well the other day. Not a big program, but maybe needed a change.

Cork stepped down for family reasons. He wants to spend more time coaching his own kids. He'll never regret that. He did a tremendous job in his 17 years and there was absolutely no need for a change it was just time for him to spend more time with his family.

Though he is leaving for all the right reasons. I looked him up on the Hub. For running a program for 17 years you would think a school of that size would of made it through sections at least once. So naturally no state appearance either. Tremendous maybe a little strong. Dedicated yes, but not much to show for his "tremendous job" that I can see. A lot of talented young coaches out there to develope these kids. Change may have been needed from the lack of accomplishment over the years, for the kids, and for the schools concern. Regardless of the reasons. They both will benefit from parting of the ways there, and possibly a more compititive program.

Hastings is pretty small and I think it's pretty close to the AA cut off.

If you are basing a coaching career on simply state tournament appearances..... you have got to be kidding me. This guy was and is a tremendous coach and made a huge impact in the youth program and getting the numbers up and developed many D1 players and a Ms. Hockey winner in Erica McKenzie. You have every right to your opinion but you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

If you are evaluating a coach based on State Tourney appearances, than I'd say your priorities are different than 98% of school administrators. Corkish did a nice job with the program for a long time, he is dedicated, and it is very difficult if not unheard of for a coach to be in one program for so long! My guess is you could count on one hand the number of head coaches who have worked with one program for 17 years!

My only other thought that would be in a sport that averages 30% or higher turnover in it's coaches each year, I think you are overestimating the number of young talented applicants out there. Hopefully they can find someone who shows the dedication and commitment that Jeff has shown in his 17 years of service. Good luck to him and hope he enjoys his time with family!

No doubt hockeywild7. Cork is a man of great character, intergrity and taught many life lessons. The kids that played for him loved him. You don't last 17 years without that. This itsfoilcoach person obviously has an axe to grind with Hastings or Cork based on prior posts. IFC posts first about Cork leaving and says not a big program and maybe a change is needed and then follows that up with "For running a program for 17 years you would think a school of that size would of made it through sections at least". Really?? Glad the hub helped you figure out what kind of guy Cork is and how successful his program was.

I'm not buyin' your casual "I just looked him up on the hub" bs. You clearly have an agenda, or an axe to grind. How do you know they both will benefit?

With these exits of local metro coaches (or just outside) of teams that have or could have strong potential I'm guessing some former NHLers will possibly be in the hunt for these openings. Podein, Younghans etc...Any news on them in the mix?

I would hope people do not throw out rumors, and only add to the conversation when they're absolutely sure of an actual coaching termination, and/or a replacement hire.
