I coudn't give you an exact number but I would guess around 20 just to BSM. Some big name guys they lost too, The Austin brothers (though Johnny started at Blake), Moore brothers, Laboskey, Kaske, Newhouse, Jungels, Student. Those are just off the top of my head, I am sure if I looked I could find a bunch. From just last year, I believe I counted 9 edina kids just on BSM, STA and Holy Angels.

But it is other teams too, Ep is losing kids and still playing well. If I remember correctly there was a large string of Lakeville kids who use to play over at St. Thomas and I'm sure they still lose a few guys now.
Wayzata has the depth just like these other cities and programs to overcome losing good players to private schools, so it shoudn't be an excuse.

Where are Holy Family's players coming from? I knew of a few from Eden Prairie, but am unaware about the others. Last time I checked the youth programs in the area were not overwhelming the EP's Edina's etc so I am curious to know where that talent came from.

Interesting. Yeah, Lakeville lost a ton of kids to STA from about 2004-2009. Jordan Schroeder being the biggest name. His brother Zach was a good one too that left to STA. Both the Crandall brothers Aaron and Justin, AJ Reid, Matt Perry, Kroska...the list goes on.

I think Holy Family is getting kids just southwest of Ep and Edina and maybe around Lake Minnetonka. Gerisch was from Chaska. According to Elite Hockey prospects, I see guys on their team from Mound, Shakopee, EP, Victoria and Orono.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few years, the coach for HF has been running summer camps out of Braemar the last three years or so and he has kids playing for Edina right now. So maybe they start grabbing a few kids from Edina, Bloomington, SLP and other first ring suburbs.

That's what I'm saying, if that is the case then I am underestimating the youth programs (in relation to their more established neighbors), or they've expanded their reach and have grabbed kids from Wayzata, Minnetonka, EP, and so on. Definitely could string together a team like this year's by doing that.

Having the "drive around the lake" be too long to get to a school is one of the more Minnesotan things I've seen recently.

That would make sense. I never pieced it together, but that seems about right.

In other news, since I was looking at where some of these kids at HF were coming from I did notice a lot of travel for some of these kids. The last two years there have been players on Holy Family who were from Bemidji, Mankato and Colarado.

2-1 loss to Farmington, with the shots (per the hub) at 15-12 Wayzata. (Yuck.)

With the exception of Farmington, Wayzata's other 4 loses were to quality teams that you can't be ashamed of losing to. Having said that, conference play is starting and you should be playing your best hockey right now. Wayzata clearly isn't.

I wasn't at game but as I looked at Hub I saw shots 8 to 8 after two. I did talk to a person at the game and he said if the goalies had been wearing Ken Dryden pads and they were playing with a soccer nets the score still would have been 2-1. I think both coaches agreed to have players play with opposite curved sticks. 0-0 after two with 16 total shots on an Olympic size rink. Ouch. GB

Loved sorenson's energy and excitement when they won and fr his teammates as they got called up for medals and awards. I caught the end of the wayzata interview online and he had very nice things to say about his teammate Lindstrom.

The way the game started out I thought EP was going to win rather handily. But after they failed to capitalize on some great chances early Wayzata adjusted to their team speed and played excellent D. Some credit or maybe a lot of credit has to go O'Leary for his team making the necessary adjustments. Nanne also gave him a lot of credit for calling the timeout at the perfect time, saying it was a critical turning point in the game.

GB --- keep your head high, I think you're turnaround plan probably made its way to the right people somehow, and was a contributor to their improvement down the stretch
