Shattuck

Post by Cool Guy1 »

Does any know for sure if Shattuck players pay or do they get scholarships? I have heard so many different stories. I heard it cost $27,000 for school and to play hockey and I have been told that ALL the players must pay the entire price. I have also heard that there is some scholarships and some kids dont pay anything. Another person told me they can get financial aid for tuition.

Where do they get aid or scholarships from? Who pays and what do they pay? I would be interested to here about other private schools too.

And I dont want to turn this into a Shattuck bashing thread or Private vs. public school thing.
I am just interested tolearn something new.

costs

Considerations based on need, availability for work programs, and some scholarship awards may bring private school costs down to 77% of list price and this includes Shattuck. There have been "free" athletic awards offered at Shattuck, Breck etc but it depends on the sport, the indivdual, timing etc. I have not heard of any free rides at Minnehaha, Grace, Holy Angels, Hill, Cretin, etc. save for occasional hardship cases.

I have heard only of the need based scholarships at Shattuck, but that doesn't mean that there aren't other types available. I don't believe full rides are given under any circumstance as far as athletics.

From what I've been told, there are achademic scholarships as well as finacial aide assistance. The hockey program is an additional 3,000 dollars. There is no assistance for this fee. That fee covers travel expenses for the teams.

hill scholarships

Post by hillhockey »

you can find a link to the listing of all of HM's scholarships on the website (it may not be up now but will be up this winter as the Feb 27 deadline nears. There are certain scholarships that are just given out to freshmen such as the father's club, which is for $750. There are others such as the sean lyons that were set up by the families in memory of one of their children. Some requirements are that you must be a parishoner at St. Peter's in NSP. Other scholarships are only for women. There is also a diversity scholarship. Then there is the student initiative. That scholarship is worth half of the years tuition (about $4k) if the student provides proof (a check stub) every academic quarter taht they are working and earning money, presumably to help pay for costs of a private school, getting there, etc. Most of these require an essay to be written first and some reccomendations from teachers.

The Catholic schools base aid on financial need. There are no athletic scholarships or free rides.

The money for the aid comes from donations, fundraising and those that pay full tuition.

Shattuck has 3 different plans.
1. live there 7 days a week. ( boarding school) = $27,500.00 + $3000.00 if you play hockey.

2. live there 5 days a week = $15000.00 + hockey fees

3. dayschool ( just like a normal city private school) = $7500.00 + hockey fees

these are ball park numbers but should be pretty close.

Now if you get finacial aide you can get it pretty normal fees. The only fees then would be if you ever wanted to see your kid play. Plane tickets and hotels.

Thanks for all the info. I find this A interesting topic. So do you people think players like Crosby, Jack Johnson and John Toews had to pay?

playing on the road...europe, canada...wherever, personal tutors and omnipresent laptops keep these guys at shattuck on top of the academic rigors back home. no other minny high school program can match that. sorry zamman, aha can't match this class act.

Hey pucknutz don't talk anymore you don't know anything its all or nothing at shattuck now they changed it like 2 or 3 years ago that means stay there all week or gome home everyday none of that discounted 5 day stuff. Also it is roughly $28,000 to stay all week. Don't say stuff you don't know anything about .

Did i just read your post correctly?

Ok so the difference between $27,500 dollars and roughly $28,000 must be quite an amount. He also added at the end these are ball park figures. KDavis you may want to settle down just a tad. He made a post that wasn't far off from what you said. Just think that maybe people should do a little less attacking on this board.

Scholarship

Post by skates4free »

I talked to a couple of pretty big hockey players yesterday and they informed me that they are 90% sure that in one way or another, shattuk does offer scholarships for their hockey program. Anyone with more information think differently?

Hey Pucknutz I know they still have day student rates. I said that, what i was saying that you did not know was that you cannot stay for 5 days anymore and go home on weekends. So you read the whole post or have your mom or tutor do it. And if you are old enough to have a son who already graduated from there, you are pathetic for talking on this site at that age. Go get a job.

I think you would be really surprised at the age of most members of this forum. Just because it's a High school hockey forum, doesn't mean it's for high schoolers only.

Why are you so worked up about the tuition price of a private boarding school? Those were the prices as of a year ago, I know I paid them. The guy was asking what it costs. I gave him BALLPARK numbers. My son never graduated from there he went there for 2 years, we moved and he came with.

Take a couple of pills and relax.

Hey pucknutz im talking about now and there is no 5 day program now. Also the word was only has 1 s not 2. Why don't you go get some hooked on phonics. And erstrikesback or whatever your name why do you have to get involved. Why don't you guys keep being bad at hockey and embarrasing yourselves every year at the tourney, and quit getting involved in other people conflicts.
