Monticello vs Princeton:5A Final

Post by hermantown2000 »

So possibly Monticello. Yes you heard me right Monticello, a team who about decade ago made infamy by getting thrashed by Moorehead 27-0 in the playoffs could make the state tournament?

Needed to appeal to the League to get moved to class A so they can chase down the Hawks.

The single A state tournament from arguably the worst single A section.

But big deal, this is important to their program.

Monticello had some good wins and ties against St Francis, Buffalo and Cathedral, but were also beat by River Lakes, North Branch and Cambridge.

Princeton seems fairly solid with 18 wins, but didn't have any losses/wins/ties that stood out.

Princeton will probably keep scores close in the tournament and Monticello could sneak one from a top team that takes them lightly.

Princeton won both games 5-2 and 4-1 during the season.

If the Tigers don't take them lightly they should have their ticket to the X punched by the end of the second

9th graders are staying home in these programs now that they moved Hermantown and Cathedral... Plenty of very highly ranked Bantam and Peewee teams the last couple (5A will be in the middle of the pack soon) years and the kids will mostly stay! Best thing to happen to hockey in the area!

Amazing how hockey would grow, if the dominant moved up (Hermantown beat HIBBING 8 - rip?) and the private schools were to battle it out in one section.

Best thing the MSHSL ever did for hockey in the area.. Sure hope they realize it!!!

I went to college in Duluth and went to watch this game on a Saturday for something to do. Worth noting a player from MONTICELLO, not Annandale/Maple Lake was on that team and is now playing D1 at Lake Superior state and doing quite well scoring goals as a Sophomore.

Why can't a thread be created exclusively for Monticello, they've been one of the most talked about teams on this forum. Gross!

A very down year for the forum, in my opinion.
