Seeding rules

Post by elliott70 »

Is there a definitive sight that gives the seeding rules for each section.

Does any section use QRF?

Section 8AA does/has fax there voting in (without voting for themselves and the section secretary tabulates and that is that.

7AA has their infamous Hinckley meeting....

Some people say section games first and then head to head is how the vote is supposed to go, but it would be nice to have an idea how its done across the various sections.

If its just coaches vote, well then anything is just a guess....

No one uses QRF, and never will in boys hockey. The coaches all vote. They look at head to head. Sometimes it gets goofy when team A beats team B, team B beats team C, and team C beats team A. But most head to head is how it is done. If geographically it works, the head coaches have a meeting and do the voting with the section rep on hand to tabulate the votes.

8AA just votes, no reckoning with head to head etc...

Vote, tabulate and let people know who, when and where they play.

Cool. That's why I said most do head to head.

Pretty sure most sections VOTE, and head to head results is one way for a coach to vote a certain way.

Seeding Rules

Post by blueblood »

There are no rules for seeding. Items that are considered and discussed are:

- Overall Record
- Section head to head games
- Strength of Schedule

Sadly, the Great 7AA Tobies Summit will not happen this year. A certain new entry into the section went and scheduled a game for themselves on that Wednesday night, thus disrupting the great tradition, at least for one year. They'll all send in their seeds like 8AA does.

And I sure hope no one uses QRF. It gets the general stuff right, but I've never found it anywhere near as accurate as PS2 or other computerized rankings. It especially overvalues teams that have beaten up on weak schedules, and underrates teams that have played tough schedules. It currently has St. Paul Johnson and MAML as #5 and #6 in Class A.

Since it is by fax this year, will they do that in the morning like 8AA? Really seems no point to wait all day.

For crushing such a hallowed tradition, I say the MSHSL should move them to 8AA. Let 'em chew on that for a couple years. Or force them to be in the same section as Hermantown, be it Class A or Class AA. :)
