It was fun night. The rivalry is alive and well. The atmosphere was so much fun. Greenway exceeded my expectations. The JV game was so strange. Greenway was leading 3-2 in the middle of the second period when their goalie got injured and had to leave the game. Greenway JV does not have a backup so they had some player put the pads on. Felt sorry for him. Rapids JV ended up winning 7-3. Greenway Bantam team beat Rapids Bantam AA team 4-3 in OT. It was a full night of intense hockey.
It all sounds awesome! Nothing beats a good rivalry game that's for sure!greenwayraider wrote:It was fun night. The rivalry is alive and well. The atmosphere was so much fun. Great, fun game. Got there at 530 and watched the jv game. Very entertaining. Greenway was in it until about 6 min left in the game. Then the flood gates kind of opened up. Rapids definitely more skilled players and deeper but greenway played disciplined and a good team game. Unfortunate the goalie had to leave and they had to suit up someone that hadn't played the position before to be goalie.
Unbelievable atmosphere tonight. Absolutely packed house. It was full an hour before game time. Plenty of chanting and cheering from both student sections. The game was probably a lot closer than most people would have thought. l think that's a good thing for the sake of the rivalry though. Greenway plays pretty well defensively as a team. Struggled to get much going offensively when they weren't on the power play. #11 was trying to carrying the team, impressive player. Rapids still needs to figure out how to play aggressively without taking so many penalties, 4 in the first period. Most weren't of the retaliatory type though so that's getting better. Rapids has been without their 2nd line forward, Steffan, for a couple games now, anyone know what's up? It was nice to see scoring from 3 players not named Hain, Mclaughlin, or Miller, that doesn't happen too often.
Plenty of hits thrown throughout the game and a few pushing matches after the whistle.
Glad to see this rivalry renewed.
