HS Hockey Podcast (Episode 13)
This is a good show this week...Karl in studio (yay)!
We pick Underclass All State...talk sleepers to state, sections on the rise and sections on the decline. Very fun show with a few laughs mixed in.

Good show as usual.
A few thoughts:
o Thankfully Jax Murray appears healthy, Elks ready for amazing finish
o The biggest recent year scheduling change heart attack for hard core AA metro fans: realizing the EP Edina game had been changed to 3 pm from 7
o Who could be the underdog, like Anoka or Bville, at the X this year?
The answer of course is Bville.
o Other Elite underclassman Dmen NOT mentioned in your voting.
The amazing list: Vorlicky, Boltmann, Hanus, Borsch, J Olsen,Hartje
o Darkhorse game of the night this week
The answer: Chaska at Jefferson .

Danny tried to pick Burnsville, but we didn't let him. Too predictable, in our minds, plus they'll be a 2-seed, and our criteria was at least a 3, and not top 15 or so yet.WestMetro wrote:

Crazy thought: if the top seeds all go through, the team I currently have ranked #7 (Stillwater) would not get seeded. All 8 AA sections have a team in the top 10. 2012 is the only year that even comes close to that.
Even with the scheduling issue, there was an excellent turnout for a Saturday afternoon game at Braemar. For capacity, I'd say it was somewhere in between three quarters to full.WestMetro wrote: o The biggest recent year scheduling change heart attack for hard core AA metro fans: realizing the EP Edina game had been changed to 3 pm from 7
I don't know when the change was made, but Edina had a formal dance that night so I'm guessing that is the why. You think they would have recognized that earlier and not made it a last minute changeWestMetro wrote:Karl, very interesting- I knew there was a reason I have been pushing you to
raise Moorhead's ranking!
Ryguy- do you know why/when the scheduling change was made?
That's probably it. Based on the game times I saw on the Hub, Lake Confernece, Eagles HS Hockey, and Hornets HS Hockey sites, the change was driven by Edina. The Lake Conference and Hornets site had a 3 pm start, while the Hub and Eagles site (which I assume is just pulling info from the Hub since there is a Hub link), had a 7 pm start.
I listened to the whole thing.
Random thoughts:
Nice job, it was somewhat fun.
After rattling off a bunch of name, teams and games it should be posted for all of us old people to read (and confirm what you said between the laughter). Oh, I meant posted someplace where you don't pay a premium to read it.
You mention LOW but do not catch the big game they have on Friday night for the opportunity to get a 4 seed (vs. Crookston).
The Thursday game's were skipped over without mentioning Marshall vs Luverne in 3A nor Sartell vs. Alex in 6A.
I thought you had missed the game between the best in 8AA and 7AA, but you saved it till the end.
Although titled high school hockey perhaps Metro Hockey would be more appropriate and yes, by freeway extension, Duluth is a metro team (thus all the hate, go ER!). (You should cover Winona-Hallock games.)
Danny seems to be the exception to the rule.
Wayzata is rounding the corner????
I keep hearing they have the talent, the coaching, yet they lose. I think time has run out on them to round the corner. They seem to lack the most important element in player development, the drive to WIN. Not that I am a Wayzata fan but I hope they find it.
The truth comes out about Northern Lakes????? Nothing against the Lightening boys, but most if not all hockey people new the truth all along.
You mentioned something about the confusion in 8AA, not so much confusion as quality and parity. All 8 in 8AA have winning records. Can any other section say that? And the top team beat up on Benilde, Minnetonka and Holy Family.
And it just goes to show, watching a lot of hockey does not mean you know a lot about hockey.
Just kidding guys, its a nice listen.

Mark,
I have a friend who reads the message board, but has never listened to the show. Thanks to you and this post, he said had to tune in to see what he was missing. His response was, "Do you do that every week? That's pretty cool."
My response was, "Yes, it's a blast...hopefully you pick up on how much we love doing it."
So, thanks for turning on another listener to the show. Your service is greatly appreciated.

Seriously, find me one post ever--ever--where I have said anything remotely like this.goldy313 wrote:My first thought was how desperate is the Mayo Clinic for exposure......
No, my first thought was how can any forum upon which Karl is involved further bash 1AA?....even though Sats kids are all gone I may actually miss him...
Going 31-0 is clearly less impressive than being .500 in 7AA.
I really don't understand your fixation.

Yea, it is not like it was when JM was a power and played a top tier non conference schedule or Century was on the rise and did the same.
Just to clarify.....my shot at Mayo had less to do with your podcast and more to the point that I can't turn on a tv or computer without seeing a Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine ad within 15 minutes......heck I have the MLB Extra Innings and I swear they have an ad behind homeplate at half the stadiums......no wonder health care is so expensive, having an ad in the prime spot at Chavez Ravine can't be cheap.
