Can't see how this benefits anyone but East and Cloquet.

The path to state just got 10x harder for Elk River and Rapids.

Watch out for Cloquet.

Bigger question -

Is anyone capable of beating ER?
(At this time, not way back in the old days.)

Well, either way I get the possibility of my favorite semi-final lineup with GR/ER and the CEC/DE rivalry. I really thought GR had a much better overall season result than CEC. Nonetheless I really like the way the bracket is set up and I like GR's quarterfinal matchup with Andover. Hopefully now Rapids is done with the flu bug and will be back to 100% for the playoffs.

What a crooked section. Randolph is laughing once again. East gets 2 cake walk wins then gets to host the section championship on home ice.

Pathetic State of Hockey.

Randolph does his magic once again.

East is like the Patriots of high school hockey.

At this point, I'm not sure there's any way to know whether Cloquet or Grand Rapids is a bigger "threat" to win a semi-final game (maybe it's wrong of me to assume they make it that far, but I do). Anybody can get hot at playoff time. With Rapids' firepower, they can turn things around quickly. And as for Cloquet, they're playing great and can give East a run at any time--like they did last year in the regular season, and have over the years in the sections.

Also...don't underestimate the influence and impact Jamie Langenbrunner has had on this team this year. He was a huge factor when he coached at the bantam and peewee levels. His knowledge and ability to motivate and focus the players is impressive.

In short, if East is happy about this, they should be careful what they wish for....

ER should win the section, but until they actually pull it off I won't bet against Randolph

I don't see how this benefits East. The way Rapids is playing now, Cloquet is a much tougher draw. Add the rivalry factor and you have a much more difficult game for East. Also, if memory serves me right, Cloquet has taken East out of the Sectionals more than Rapids has. Apparently late season performance was way more important than the entire season. I see an Elk River/Andover and East/Cloquet semis.

The top two seeds don't surprise me at all. East beat Grand Rapids in the regular season so Randolphs team deserves the benefit of a doubt. Cloquet is a little surprising though
Picks
QF:
Elk River 11, Cambridge or Forest Lake 2-Cambridge fans still waiting for that QF win
Grand Rapids 4, Andover 2-Thunder Hawks struggle but hang on
Duluth East 5, St. Francis 0
Cloquet 4, Duluth Marshall 1
SF
Elk River 5, Grand Rapids 4 ot
Duluth East 7, Cloquet 2
Final
Elk River 4, Duluth East 3 (3 ot)- Elks give Randolphs team a dosage of their own magic and pull off a third period comeback.

Sorry Elk River couldn't get to play St Frannie, Cambridge and Andover on their road to state.

If the status quo is allowed to remain, East will eventually be afforded the luxury of that schedule, with all games right in their backyard.
