So does Armstrong go after Weisjahn like they wanted to a few years ago? Would he leave Orono? This one will be interesting.

Weisjahn still teaches at Armstrong. It would seem like a natural fit. Could leave Orono searching for a new coach. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o">

I'm sure the concensus from the parents would be to have a coach that also teaches at the High School or at least in the District. Obviously, Todd would be the front runner as far as that is concerned. You could also speculate that he would have his father-in-law, Bruce Johnson, be one of the assistant coaches, possibly on a part time basis. Bruce was the former Armstrong Head Coach and AD, and currently is an assistant coach at Jefferson.

I would have to concur with Eddie that Todd seems like a natural fit for the program. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Eveleth

Post by redknight99 »

Last year, there was discussion that the Eveleth assistant coach was going to take the Sartell job but now he is the header in Eveleth. Anyone know if that still seems possible that the Eveleth coach will make that move to Sartell this year?

Regardless of what the previous coach's supporters say, he did a great job in Eveleth this year with only 5 or 6 players returning from the 2003-2004 team with 11 or 12 wins (more than the previous year when they had 9 or 10 seniors). I had the opportunity to watch them play a few times and their level of play (effort especially)was vastly different than the previous few years up there. They made "young" mistakes but overall played with very good discipline for a team that was playing their first year in all new systems. It seemed like the players bought into his philosophy and it showed.

Would he make that move to Sartell if they came calling?

wouldn't Eric Johnson, former Armstrong/St.Cloud Standout and Minnetonka's Hockey Coordinator make sense?

Jls you could only hope

Post by tooold2tell »

No rumors on this no brainer, but I did hear that some Hockey players started shooting hoops, so that they may have a chance at getting to a State Tourney. I saw the Rapids-Cloquet Semi Final game in Hibbing, and it was so obvious. Cloquet didn't have better players than Rapids, they just played with more passion and knew what there rolls were. Put Esse behind the bench in Rapids, the game would have been different. I will still take the better players, and you can have the good coach, but when it comes down to two teams with similar abilities, that's when a coach can make a difference.

hopkins varsity is not on everyones mind, but, i'm curious why a long-time coach in the youth ranks...Bantam A etc. was not even considered for the head position last year. I believe his name is rogue (sp) swenson. the two harbors coaches are new to the system and have done a reasonable job. they got thumped by jefferson in the opening section round pretty bad. will hopkins ever gain back some power, like they had twenty-five years ago?

Coasches on the Move

Post by GR80 »

Section 6 would be happy to see weisjohn leave for Armstrong. He has got a lot to learn about coaching. He walked into a great team his frist year at Orono. A team that Kevin Armstrong and the Orono youth association developed. He thought it was going to be a cake walk again this year. He has also said that he doesn't want to play some of the section teams because he wants stiffer competition. I hope he doesn't burn to many bridges becasue it won't be long before he would be back begging the section 6 teams for games because there youth teams have dropped off some. Granted they have a very good group at the bantam level this year and will be tough for a few years to come. But after that they will not compete very well with the lake schools like Weisjoh thinks they can.

Official posting ends Friday. I would think the answer will be fairly clear soon after that. Weisjahn would be a great choice. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Word around Warroad is that the arena board is looking at bringing in Scotty Bowman because they aren't happy with the job the coaches did last year.
