Why on earth should EP feel fortunate to have Smith? Has that program done anything under him? I think the coup that was spoken of this spring in EP was headed by not only the dad's but I think Smith had something to do with it too (my speculation not a fact or anything I can confirm, my opinion). He has had to hear for years why does the Bantam team win State titles, and the high school team can't even get to the tourney. If EP truely wanted to become the powerhouse at the high school level that they are at the Bantam and Peewee level. They would fire Smith and hire Lacombe and Tom.

Have never been there so I couldn't say yea or nay on the shooters...I do know that Main Street East or West and Breakers usually has the better hockey talks. Fact is most of the decisions as of late have been formulated at Breaker's(formerly Frank's) to the chagrin of Mike and his little brothers.

Baes on all your knowledge, maybe they should hire you?
Smith and has staff has done very well. Unlike a lot of coaches, smith is a stand-up guy....

Sherm/Christian K

Post by MajinHockey »

Happen to be familiar with both these guys. Sherm was big with the Cloquet youth scene for years and Christian played for Jefferson and has coached in the Duluth East programs for a few years as well. I also worked with Christian for several years, great guy and I hope all goes well at Central.

Majin

Have there been changes at the varsity coaching level with Mound-West Tonka? I have heard (possibly incorrectly) that Brian Short, from Two Harbors is coming in? Any other information on that? Frankly, I've never heard of Short. The guys I was talking with at the New Hope rink recently thought he might be from Quebec. That seems like a reach to take a relative newcomer.

There hasn't been a change at Mound Westonka. A couple of new assistants have been added to their staff, but that's about it. Short is not one of their new assistants - I've never heard of him either.

Central has a new coach I've seen him in action a few times. The program I feel will do much better this year with this new coach. I think that program realizes the lie Kernz passed onto that program and wish they never had let him in from what Ive been hearing around Duluth. I try to keep up with the Duluth teams as much as I can.

Roger is from Grand Rapids.
Graduated in about 1987 or so.
Went to Kent State when they had a D1 program.
Has been active in first reffing and then with youth hockey since being in Bemidji which I am guessing must be something like 10 years now.

I don't know his relatives.

Who are the new assistants? Will the new arena be finished in time for the start of the season?

elliot,
I think that Bemidji hockey will once again return to status of solid hockey program with the combination in a matter of a few years if not sooner. I know Kevin a little and he sure seems to be one heck of a great fellow. Great news for Bemidji.

Kevin will be a great asset.
And the younger teams are doing well.
I expect a lot of positive things to happen in Bemidji.
Of course, Moorhead is and will be strong in 8aa for the foreseeable future:
Moorhead, then the rest trying to knock them off. Roseau has a chance over the next 3 years. So what we need is 4 -5 tough hockey programs so the semi's will be tough for Moorhead so someone has a chance at beating them in the finals.
The regular season becomes very improtant because you need the 2 or 3 seed to gain the finals without seeing Moorhead.

Not that I want to see Moorhead get knocked off because I like the people, the community and the players.
But Bemidji is #1 and Roseau #2 in my heart when it comes to AA hockey.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... liott70 at: 9/19/05 11:59 am

Well, THE Falls is single A.
So they would be #1 in single A.
Followed in no particular order:
Bagley, Crookston, East Grand Forks, Red Lake Falls, Thief River Falls, Hallock, Warroad & Lake of the Woods.

In double A #3 would probably be

I hear they have just hired a new coach. Any idea of who it was. The rumor I hear is the JV guy Joe Law will be taking over.

I would think with the addition of Buffalo, and Bemidji getting back online, that this year's semi's could be real decent. Roseau, Buffalo & Bemidji vying for the right to knock of Moorhead, or possibly putting them out in the semi's.

While I think Bemidji will have an improved year and a steady progress in their high school team - preseason picks definitely have to go:
1 Moorhead
2 Roseau

3 Buffalo, St Cloud Tech & Bemidji
the #3 spot being very important.

Moorhead lost a lot but they have alot of super talent moving up. Roseau will be much stronger with a lot of young kids getting experience last year and a lot of good kids moving up from bantams to fill some spots.
Tech & Bemidji will need a strong work ethic and good goaltending.
I am not too knowledgable about Buffalo - other than what I see them doing this Fall and I know the coaching staff is excited.

I think there is a lot of excitement around the whole state about the HS season and were still 2 months out from start-up.
