Honest question.... where and what sections? I can imagine in 6A it didn't make much of a difference as the travel was negligible..... I have officiated a 5A and 3A neutral site game the last 2 years and attendance and atmosphere were awful compared to semi final home field games.alcloseshaver wrote:Neutral sites in football for section finals were jam packed in the metro. They have the same problem in 1AA, there is only 1 rink in the section capable of hosting due to seating capacity, the alternative is basically only Mariucci and that isn't economically feasible.
Football, in most sections, went to neutral sites, attendance has suffered and the atmosphere can be horrible with small crowds.

5A STMA V Elk River at Buffalo's new stadium. Overflow crowd. Also Alex V Sartell big crowd.goldy313 wrote:Honest question.... where and what sections? I'm not going to go much further on this one, as it seems you want the last word.alcloseshaver wrote:It may say MSHSL on the paper work but the proceeds go to Region 7AA. The MSHSL oversees the finances and the Region secrataries are paid a salary.
TV proceeds go to the MSHSL and is allocated evenly among the league. Again, I have seen the paper work and know what I am talking about.
You might be confusing the money allocation with all the other pieces of revenue, such as gate fees.
Another reason why Amsoil is the preferred venue for the semis and finals. More seats, more money. Amsoil has a larger capacity than any of the other previously mentioned "options".

My bad Schotz, Clearly I am stuck on gate proceeds which go to the section. TV money different. Although sections are working on having more say on streaming revenue in the future.Schotzy wrote:I'm not going to go much further on this one, as it seems you want the last word.alcloseshaver wrote:It may say MSHSL on the paper work but the proceeds go to Region 7AA. Agreed norcon. Semifinal Saturday at Amsoil sounds great on paper but the fact is the last 2-3 years it is a pretty dull atmosphere with only the diehard fans, relatives, and some students attending. A lot of open seats and open space. It is too big of an arena for semifinal games, the atmosphere just isn't there. It's gets even less interesting when the game is a blowout. Maybe the semifinals in Hibbing and finals at Amsoil?Jeffy95 wrote:See above, i.e. Telelevision rights = Money for MSHSL. Being from Rapids, I would have no issue with having to drive over to St. Cloud, Bemidji or even Mariucci for sections. Rapids fans will follow their team wherever they play, which isn't the case for most of the teams in the section. It's time for a change...no more home ice advantage for East!
Television rights shouldn't apply to the Semifinal games since they aren't broadcast, right?

The semifinals attendance could be a lot better if more 7A fans showed up for the 7AA games. I don't get why the arena isn't more packed. Being the State of Hockey there should be a lot more hockey fans that would want to spend a full Saturday at the arena for 4 games. Hopefully Amsoil Arena will advertise during the Thur/Fri UMD games. I guess part of the problem too is usually a lot of the youth teams are playing that day. I wish the local schools bantam and pee wees would schedule games in Duluth not at the same time of their HS team playing. Kinda like how Moorhead brought all their teams to GR for games recently.

I don't usually stay for A. Hermantown is so dominate. There's no mystery or maybe or what if in the result.....or drama. I'm sure a lot of folks don't come for the same reason.TheHockeyDJ wrote:The semifinals attendance could be a lot better if more 7A fans showed up for the 7AA games.
