How about that Metro East Conference?

Post by kpryan88 »

3 teams are making the journey to the X; any other conference able to say that? Just curious.[/quote]

Was thinking the same thing...two pretty impressive results tonight, not to mention the Tartan win over WBL earlier in sections. Not bad for a conference that usually just seems top-heavy.

Is this the Metro East that threw St. Thomas out and changed their name from Classic Suburban only to have the MSHSL put STA back in their conference among the objection of the old CSC/Metro East members. Now you claim them?

Fwiw 33% chance STA is in 1AA next year.

Is 1A going to get crowded with Rochester schools?

sta would have to be the last frontier for 1AA - any further north and you'd have to include directional st paul schools

Yes, if not this year than in 2 years. The free/ reduced lunch rate is expanding rapidly while enrollment isn't. You can follow the trend....Bloomington....Burnsville... Lakeville.... now Northfield, Farmington, and New Prague. Century Co Ops now with Stewartville, a 4A football school to field s team. Owatonna is one of the smallest AA hockey schools, 4 years ago they were nearly a 6A football school (largest 32 schools).

Century was the #4 seed in 1AA, they would have been #7 in 1A.

Rochester will fight long and hard to not become St. Cloud......but the writing is on the wall.

I can't verify this but I do believe it......the last minority to letter in hockey in a Rochester public school was s a native American, Bucky Flores, in 1989, the only African American was Jack Trotter and he lettered in 1986. You can't survive as a major city anymore in hockey given that....they have to get more kids involved.

It depends which way you go..... Hastings is in section 1 in track, swimming, cross country, etc. Rosemount,Eastview, and Apple Valley have been in football, Lakeville is in almost every sport now aside football.

Mendota Heights is, besides Hastings and Rosemount closest to 1AA. Traditionally STA is nowhere, while Hastings does have a home and Rosemount belongs in the RAVE section.

I referred to it as The Tradition-rich Metro East Conference.
