Worked out well with Rapids being seeded and avoiding that quarterfinal match with Moorhead. If they meet, it will be in the State Championship game.
Eden Prairie-Wayzata is intriguing from a couple standpoints, primarily being a rematch of last years state title game.
Gonna be great!

1 vs 8 happened again
STA arguably has the easiest draw
Hill vs Moorhead is a rematch from the last regular season game for both teams. Could it be another OT game between these 2 teams?
GR vs MG - GR wins, easily, I think.
Should be a fun weekend! At least I know now I can buy a season pass on grandstadium tv and watch all the games from my living room in Seattle!
Re: AA seeds - final
This the Grand Rapids team that lost to Cloquet two weeks ago? I don't think they should consider any game easy. Maple Grove is for real, they played a tough schedule and beat some solid teams.kpryan88 wrote:Well, northerners got their wishkicksave33 wrote:x-LVS

They aren't taking anything lightly. It was just one posters opinion on the game.Sparlimb wrote:This the Grand Rapids team that lost to Cloquet two weeks ago? I really like the matchups, especially the evening session. And if anybody seriously thinks the 1,2,3 seed opponent matchups... are truly the result of a blind draw..they also must believe in Santa Claus & the Easter Bunny. Love 17 loss Wayzata in a rematch from last year vs EP. And GR vs MG is going to be an entertaining nightcap. LVS will give STA a battle and Spuds vs HM will be a great game.kicksave33 wrote:x-LVS

Yes, they played a challenging schedule and had some success with it, I just look at the history of the 2 programs. GR has a long and storied history with a system that is proven to work on the big stage. They arguably are coming out of the deepest section in the state, I don't know any other section that had 4 teams with a legitimate shot at winning.north_bear wrote:They aren't taking anything lightly. MG is making their 2nd ever trip to state, I know they are hoping to have some better success this year, they need to prove it to me before I become a believer that they can take out the Injuns.
Could MG win? Sure. Do I think they'll win? No.
I agree. It looks like some great games on Thursday. You knew that really good team from among Maple Grove, Hoorhead, Grand Rapids and Hill-Murray was going to be unseeded. You could have made a case for those teams to be ranked in any order from 3-6 and HM lost head to head against the other three, which probably cost them (They did beat STA in their first match-up). Having said that, i don't think the Pioneers are too upset with their draw. They get a Moorhead team they played evenly with and then a possible semi-final against a foe they know well in STA, during which 95% of the crowd at the X would be hoping both teams lose. My initial pick would be an Eden Prairie vs. Moorhead final, but I think any of the teams could win it all.

So they didn't follow their final let's play hockey poll where Maple Grove was higher than Moorhead . That's kind of weird, because Maplegrove played huge to beat centennial
Anyway, might not really matter since the pairings are still the same it's the only the bracket game times that changed.
but one weird thing as a result of this is rapids is now in the same bracket as Eden Prairie instead of the opposite bracket. So they will have to get through them Friday night semi finals to get to the championship game

Some quick thoughts on the matchups:
-The EP/Wayzata outcome will be closer to the final regular season result with Wayzata's goalie playing well, but Casey won't be denied and EP should win by a goal or two. Wayzata has only allowed one goal in the playoffs, and that was in the section final against Edina.
-Grand Rapids is playing really well, almost back to beginning season form. It's been such a rollercoaster ride that I have no idea what to make of them. If the early season team is back, then GR should be able to get past Maple Grove.
-STA didn't really have much top tier competition in the section and I think that may actually hurt them a bit. I could see LS sneaking one out.
-Going with H-M over Moorhead. Moorhead and STA share the same issue of not really being tested in the sections.

It is curious that a team who was good enough for the 4 seed in their section was able to pull the 5 seed at state...Sparlimb wrote:Thought for the day (and this isn't me complaining about seeding, I don't care).
Would HM be seeded if Cloquet (3 seed) had come out of 7AA as opposed to Grand Rapids (4 seed)?

I wish the MSHSL would just live stream the random draw. I really think they don't give a rat's rear end who gets picked to play who. Of what possible benefit is it to them?
I'd really like to know how the voting was, relative to other years. Were there some razor thin margins? Now that they'll never let us know.
I'll take the HM-Spuds match up in a heart beat. Typically Lex teams play an opponent better the second time around. That was one concern I had about playing Stillwater, as they were not on the schedule this year. (That should not happen again.) they did lose to STA the second game, but that's a rivalry situation, and it doesn't seem like either team sweeps that series very often.
EP is far and away the #1, but they can't look past anyone. Wayzata won't be intimidated by playing guys they've played against for ten years.
I've never seen a field so even.

MSHSL and 45 wantd a true northern team for prime time game. And the 4 seed in sections, ask ER fans on that..... but do NOT bring up road trips! #Rapidsroadtripstosectionseveryyear
It is what it is!
Top bracket looks weak compared to who's in the bottom bracket. But since EP wins this tournament EASILY (word of the topic) and is in the bottom bracket, I guess that is assumed.
Heck, I think the top three teams in the tournament are located in the bottom bracket. They would probably be the #4, #5, and #6 seeds in 7AA.

That was my first thought when I saw the bracket. Should be a lot of hate when Moorhead plays. Potential to go against 2 privates in a row. Kinda sucks because Moorhead is probably my next favorite team after Hill. Then Bemidji. Then Cloquet. Must be something about that nickname. The spuds. Love it.SEC Scotty wrote:Eden Prairie best not look past Wayzata. I would like to know how many shots they blocked vs. Edina and the goalie was unreal.
Maple Grove is for real.
Grand Rapids is on a roll.
Lechner has Hill believing.
St. Thomas chokes again.
I see a Hill Murray-Eden Prairie final.
The City of Hill Murray is beautiful this time of year
I've said the same thing. I want the winner of the HM v Moorhead game to win it all. Although I'd be fine with...Lakeville South or Grand Rapids. No one else terribly interests me. I'd prefer STA lose and head to the consolation bracket. I like them there.BlueLineSpecial wrote:That was my first thought when I saw the bracket. Should be a lot of hate when Moorhead plays.
