So true. IIRC(and I may be wrong) he only had one player go on to play at the D1 level and that was back in 1990. Also Albert Lea under Nystrom was always very competitive. Even in seasons where the win/loss record wasn't the best you knew you had been in a game when you played Albert Lea.karl(east) wrote:Sad to see Nystrom go. He ends with 705 wins, which is second-most all time to Lorne Grosso...that's 89 ahead of Willard Ikola, who is third, and 107 ahead of the next-winningest currently active coach, who is fourth. What a remarkable career, particularly in a place where he has not been blessed with heaps of front-end talent all that often.

Seriously, that's the dumbest thing I've heard all day, and I've been up since 5:30.
I have no idea what Giles is paid and no do I care. That said I remember when Dave Nelson was hired away from Blaine to coach football at Minnetonka and the Dallas Morning News reported he was tge highest paid high school football coach in the nation. When a guy at Minnetonka is paid more than a guy at Midland Permian or De La Salle (CA) or Katy or Bidhop Gorman, something is a miss.......

Darlington couldn't win enough to appease the Valdosta faithful. He's back at Apopka where he has won two more state titles.

This article put his salary at $90,000 over a decade ago, plus use of a pickup truck. To accomplish that, he was given the Athletic Director title and an Assistant A.D. did all that work to free him up to coach football.
Be kind. Rewind.
