John Rothstein was asked why leave with what is there. He simply replied what kind of guy would i be if i left Trent with the cupboard bare. Trent didnt get the message - he rode the horses that GR had then left when there was nothing in the cupboard. He promised - he renigged - and there are people that revere him for "bringing" a state title here. That team was winning no matter who was coaching. Their title was more of a testament to the players - they won it - they would've regardlesshadenuf wrote:I am sure he is learning that there is a lot more to coaching a high school team than showing up for games and practices.
Nice guy but he was given an empty tool box.
Character is who you are when no one is watching

One of the more foolish statements I've read in awhile. You obviously forgot or aren't familiar with all the drama and off ice issues surrounding the team the last two years. Trent is a good person and was a good coach. Without him I could have easily seen the team imploding.
Thunderhawk Fanatic!!
Trent did a decent job, but I pretty much agree with GR3343. Both years he had a team loaded with talent, especially the 2015/16 team. Definitely underachieved with that group. Maybe he was part of the problem with the off ice issues. He didn’t appear to be very committed to the program. He wanted to jump ship as soon as there was any controversy. Dealing with problems comes with the job. Do you think Rapids is the only school with off ice issues? Just ask Dave Esse about what he went through in Cloquet over the years.north_bear wrote:GR3343 wrote:John Rothstein was asked why leave with what is there. I want to underachieve and take third place in the Class AA state hockey tournament.norcon wrote:Trent did a decent job, but I pretty much agree with GR3343. I was pretty much referring to the whole body of work that season. I believe they did underachieve. The losses to Wayzata towards the end of the season and the state semi-final against EP and Middlestat were good examples. It appeared to me that the coach was not proficient at making in-game adjustments.boblee wrote:I want to underachieve and take third place in the Class AA state hockey tournament.norcon wrote:Trent did a decent job, but I pretty much agree with GR3343. Grand Rapids' goalie stole two games for them up north on the weekend. Outplayed pretty heavily they beat both Roseau and Warroad behind a great goaltender. If you can't score on a team, it is really hard to win. He had 40 saves in a overtime win Friday and 42 saves Saturday,. 964 save percentage.
We've got 7 yes we do, we've got 7, how about you!

You sound like a Falls guy. . Still remember how Huffer Christianson seemed to beat Greenway single-handedly in 1962.elliott70 wrote:After 1962, 1964, 1965, 1966 and 1972.grindiangrad-80 wrote:I don't have anything to add to this thread. And Fichuk and Sheehy, but Antonovich got the best of Demarchi.greenwayraider wrote:You sound like a Falls guy. .
