DEAST should win if they play D and get any kind of decent tending.

Perhaps the offensive style (and self serving) played in the elite league has been a bad influence on some of the players for DEAST.

A highly entertaining game in front of a great crowd at Heritage. (I'm on a nice run of those lately.)

East popped in its first goal just over a minute in and could have had a bunch more in the first period, but Marshall, largely through the play of Cam Brandt in goal, held on. They settled in as the second period went along, and Flaherty broke up George Grannis and Levi Stauber, which seemed to provide some necessary balance to their top two lines. (Stauber in particular seemed to get going more after that; Grannis was phenomenal all night.) Marshall tied it on a goal by Klatt (a name that unsettles us East fans) and then Grannis nailed a buzzer-beater at the end of the 2nd. East tied it up on a penalty shot by Jouppi after a puck was covered in the crease, and Logan Anderson finished at the end of a long East flurry in OT to win it.

Marshall has proven it's a viable contender with these narrow losses to Minnetonka and East. What they may lack in depth they make up for in discipline and knowledge of their roles. Goaltending was a bit of a question mark coming in, but Brandt was excellent tonight...he's a big kid who covers a lot of net. For my money, they're the second-best team in 7AA right now.

East has been sound defensively in both their games this week, dominating play for long stretches but not quite putting teams away when they have the chance. At this point, it's a matter of turning possession into goals, finishing some of the great chances they did have, and driving to the net and maybe even not being too unselfish at times. At least they've responded well to adversity in their past three games, though you could say that they shouldn't be in some of these situations in the first place...but hey, undefeated is undefeated. They're still rotating goaltenders, too, though Hanson was strong on Tuesday and Kleive certainly did the job tonight.

But, perhaps most importantly, Gregory the Greyhound has found himself a lady greyhound friend. First time I've ever seen a team roll out two skating mascots!

The broadcasters mentioned that Klatt and Oman were playing their first games with Marshall. Anyone know where they came from?

A quick google search makes it seem like Oman played in East youth hockey and Klatt is from Lakeville North.
