Edina injury status
Been searching for this info since last Wed 12/20...dug deep, scoured sources - but nothing and for obvious reasons I suppose.
DK held out for 'concussion' precautions but was in attendance w/ family at the CDH tilt. Looked fine. Rumor has it the Edina 'team doctor' normally declares any head injury and/or concussion protocol to be a 2-week minimum situation so thats puts DK back after NYE and missing entire Schwans Cup. We will see in about 3 hours. (Soph Cole Cavanagh had same situation and was held out 2 weeks as well earlier this season).
Crosby was rumored to simply have the flu (as did Giles) so we shall see - hopefully the flu bug didnt run through team too bad. They'll need full roster to manage Tonka and win - w/o Crosby and DK Edina still solid, but thats too much firepower missing and ultimately, chemistry affected and lines jumbled (see CDH game)...if Tonka really pushes puck and shoots every chance they get they can easily put up 5, 6, 7 goals on Mackay. He simply has to gain confidence, cut down angles and play with an attitude. Then again - some adversity and a few losses might serve the Hornets well for late Feb and early March.

Giles and Smith from EP each had a one game suspension from the antics in the last game according to my sources.

The rule of 2
WOW.
1st period 2-2 and as even a match as one could hope.
3rd period 0-0 and as even a mach as one could hope.
2nd period 3-0 Tonka over Edina.
2 of the 3 Tonka goals scored in 2nd due to careless, sloppy, lazy turnovers with one committed by Brinkman leading to a breakaway shortie... #17 had a rough night. It happens. He's human and a youngster but as uncharacteristic a night for Brinkman as Ive ever seen in 2+ years on varsity and 2 elite league seasons.
Clearly, DK and Crosby (#23 & #11) were not at 100%...their normal speed, hustle and tenacity in the corners leading to swift cycling of the puck was just not there...Edina 1st line scored its 2 goals but a doughnut from 2nd line. Edina 3rd & 4th lines were dominated by Tonka. #23 & #11 looked like they needed another week off.
Tonka is a year older, better coached and the most balanced team Edina has seen this year. Tonka is the real deal. They didnt play the puck and get mesmerized by Edina speed like most do - they played the man, they attacked, put pucks on net and brought a relentless forecheck. Glockner, the Tonka G? Stellar. 3 burgles w/ the glove at point blank range. Very impressive. Edina hit 2 pipes and just missed on about 5 tip-ins. A couple of Hornets will have nightmares about Glockners glove over the next week to be sure.
Long way 2 go this season, 2 more matchups with Tonka...but maybe this is exactly what Edina needed. "Hype monkey" off their backs, reality slap in the face...good 2 be humbled. Get back 2 basics. #23 & #11 heal up. Both those 2.

Re: Edina injury status
On whose authority? MSHSL, or something imposed by the coaching association or conference on its members? No bench penalties assessed to either that game other than a Too Many Men.BP wrote: Giles and Smith from EP each had a one game suspension from the antics in the last game according to my sources.
Be kind. Rewind.
Re: Edina injury status
Interesting, and not surprised if they were in fact suspensions. More surprising there was not one misconduct penalty in th 3rd period called when the game evolved into goon hockey and the purpose became intent to injure. There should have been a misconduct at a minimum on the hit to Koumontzis.BP wrote:CakeScout17 wrote:Been searching for this info since last Wed 12/20...dug deep, scoured sources - but nothing and for obvious reasons I suppose.
