Chaska

Post by WestMetro »

Congrats to Hawks on OT win over LVN.

Coach Snuggerud and team accumulated a number of wins over unranked teams earlier in the season ,beat A ranked Breck , and losing only to A ranked Sartell, in an away Friday night after school game if I recall right .

Then - the last three games lost by only 3 to Tonka (same as Tonka Edina margin), 2 to Moorhead in a quality game , and then beating lower top 20 LVN today . All with some injuries to key personnel.

They should give Prior Lake a good game tomorrow

Expecting this bunch of kids to continue to improve this year

Time to start thinking about this team as possibly lower top 20 material .
4 D1 players ,and Bach proving solid in goal .

Tonka and Moorhead each scored late empty net goals as well, so scores were even closer than that. The knock on the Hawks has largely been a lack of depth, but without two of those D1 commits this week (Warnert and Pitlick), and still coming out with generally positive results, that argument holds a bit less water. Good goaltending has definitely helped.

I saw them yesterday against Moorhead and Moorhead was bigger and stronger. Warnert didn’t play for Chaska and would have helped at 6’ 5”. He stood out in the Elite League. Koster is the best puck moving defenseman I have seen this year. Definitely a special player. Tomorrow’s game against PL should help determine section seeding.

Prior Lake might just eek out the #4 seed in Section 2AA with a 2-1 win over Chaska. It was the only head-to-head matchup between the two schools in the regular season. Against common opponents for Prior Lake and Chaska, both teams scored a win over Lakeville North. Chaska was more competitive against Moorhead or Minnetonka. Advantage Prior Lake on overall strength of schedule.

Common opponents:

Vs. Minnetonka:
Chaska, L 5-2 (ENG), 12/23/17
Prior Lake, L 4-1, 12/2/17

Vs. Moorhead:
Chaska, L 3-1 (ENG), 12/28/17
Prior Lake, L 5-1, 12/29/17

Vs. Lakeville North:
Chaska, W 4-3, 12/29/17
Prior Lake, W 4-3, 12/28/17

Yes a costly and unexpected loss

Hawks allowed too many odd man rushes, careless about protecting the blue line when Koster/D corps carried the puck in deep. Credit to Lakers because they actually seemed to be looking specifically for those situations

And PL found ways to bottle up Lavelle most of the time

Section 2AA drama begins early

Agreed. Another recent Burnsville defenseman Teemu Kivihalme also comes to mind.
