Tons of interesting games for a Friday night. 8AA is finally kicking into gear with the Moorhead vs STMA and Roseau vs Brainerd games. Orono vs Delano will be huge for 2A seeding, and that section is looking to be a messy shootout.

Grand Rapids strikes first. 1-0 mid 1st. GR has killed 2 penalties already. The best hockey i have seen them play this year so far.

4-1 after two. Sog 25-12. HF is faster, bigger and their passing is crisp and on the stick. Good team and definitely shows the difference between AA and A.

Ends in a tie at 1. GR making some strides. Easily the best 3 periods of the year for the Halloween Machine. Way to go boys.

Proctor 3, Virginia 2. What a shocker. Also the Hub had Virginia only outshooting Proctor by 10 shots. Both Virginia and Greenway are really struggling. Virginia has lost to Rosemount and Delano by 5-1 scores and now to
Proctor. Greenway has lost to Alexandria, Rosemount and was totally outclassed by Holy Family. Looks like Hermantown is back on schedule with its win over Cathedral and outshooting them 31 to 18. Cathedral plays Virginia today so Virginia has a chance to show they are better than the loss to Proctor. I thought Cathedral and Mahtomedi would be be the top two teams to challenge Hermantown so Hermantown's game with Mahtomedi will be another moment where this "down" Hermantown team can establish itself as the solid favorite to win State again.

In a bit of a belated discussion point from last night’s games, SLP’s 3-1 win over Wayzata is a spicy meatball!

The loss drops the Trojans to 2-2 in section game, with wins over CDH and BSM, and losses to Blake and SLP. Wayzata’s only remaining 6AA games are against Edina (x2) and Hopkins. Barring any major upsetss, they will finish 3-4 in section. Wayzata also has to face Minnetonka and Eden Prairie twice each, along with Duluth Marshall and Hill Murray. Obviously this is a team that has overcome adversity in the recent past and turned things around in the playoffs, but this year’s Trojans could well be staring at a five or six seed and a quarterfinal exit.

Also, SLP has been a bit of a pain for good teams all year, and finally snuck up and bit someone.

Glad you posted this. I started to wonder when they lost to Blake 5-2. They looked amazing over Benilde, but the lackluster showings have added up and it is hard to consider them in same breath with Edina and Cretin.

1. Edina

2. Cretin

3-6. Benilde, Blake, SLP, Wayzata

7-8. Armstrong/Cooper, Holy Angels

That bunch in the middle is worth following. Edina will likely get winner of 4-5 game and we know Coach O'Leary could take this year's group and make that one interesting.
Be kind. Rewind.

...and just like that... Blake goes down to Buffalo and Wayzata won in overtime over Moorhead.

Ha, go figure. That middle group is still going to be a mess, however, and these results show just how inconsistent all but the most elite teams are in both classes. I’m actually less surprised by the Blake result, since Buffalo has an absolute stud goaltender in Mueller who can shut down almost anyone.

And I agree that no one in Edina wants to see the Trojans in the playoffs, but this Hornet squad is definitely a cut above last year’s.
