Roseau vs. Warroad tonight
This rivalry officially started in 1945, with Roseau holding the edge with 99 wins, 67 losses and 4 ties. I will admit that this rivalry has lost some luster with the teams being in separate classes and Roseau being somewhat irrelevant in the class AA picture the last several years. Roseau will have to take a good hard look at its future and at some point consider the move back to A, making this game mean something again. With that said it is still a fun night at Memorial Arena as these two teams, no matter how their seasons are going, still want to be the top team in Roseau County. Go Rams!
We've got 7 yes we do, we've got 7, how about you!

I totally agree. Many small town/school/hockey programs that opt up, I think, should definitely move down to where they belong and make A hockey relevant outside of Hermantown.Green and White Fan wrote:This rivalry officially started in 1945, with Roseau holding the edge with 99 wins, 67 losses and 4 ties. Don't get me wrong. It was the right move to opt up and we have won 2 state titles since doing it. With declining enrollment in our district and the numbers of kids playing in the larger districts, it has become much more difficult to compete. Can Roseau still make it to state and compete, probably. But is once every 10 or 15 years good for the kids and the program now or are we playing Class AA to appease us old timers who remember the good old days. A conversation that needs to begin in the near future. We still have good kids, some top end talent, but just not in the numbers that it seems are needed to compete at that level. There is nothing wrong with our kids or their effort.

Well said. I feel the exact same way with CEC. Huge fan and love the kids alwaysGreen and White Fan wrote:Don't get me wrong. Sure seemed relevant to me last year watching 3 different teams battle "program which shall not be named" to the last minute. I enjoyed the entire tournament. I am sure East Grand, Warroad, Mahtomedi, Orono, Mound Westonka, etc feel Class A is relevant.kniven wrote:I totally agree. As far as Roseau goes, they have such a great history that many of us envy. Most years they are very competitive in AA. A few down years here and there, but I respect them for sticking with it.

Hermantown is dominant. They are down this year, but they are still the overall favorite to win A again. I predict they win the next 10 A championships and it won’t be close. squirt, peewee and Bantam teams all top 5 in state right now. With more kids wanting to play and coming to Hermantown added to the teams they currently have. I really wish they would get a new arena already.zooomx wrote:Sure seemed relevant to me last year watching 3 different teams battle "program which shall not be named" to the last minute. I’ve heard it’s every 2 years teams can opt up or down. I would love to see Roseau and Bemidji in A with every other AA opt upelliott70 wrote:If Roseau and Bemidji stayed down section 8A would become even more competitive.
But Bemidji is not changing, at least for four years.
I have heard people talk in Roseau about it. But I would guess they are locked in for at least 4 years.

I’ll take Roseau......just because they are Roseau. If the game was being played in Warroad, I would pick Warroad because they are Warroad.elliott70 wrote:Anyway, enough about "irrelevant" single A,
Who wins tonight?
And why?
Are both sides at 100%
And is the Legion between periods the best bar in MN?

Yes, two years but Bemidji will not stay down on the next go around. Maybe in 4, assuming they have the option, which may not be with the current growth.kniven wrote:I’ve heard it’s every 2 years teams can opt up or down. Are both sides at 100% - unknown
And is the Legion between periods the best bar in MN? - YES, because it is only 60 steps from the rink - door to door (...but for some, it is 92 on the way back)
