Class A Rankings 2-11-18

Post by HShockeywatcher »

One more week of the regular season. Cathedral beat Orono, Minneapolis beat Breck, Alexandria beat Sartell, EGF beat Alexandria; it was a big week in Class A hockey. Not much more to go before the playoffs.

1. [1] Hermantown (16-6-2) (9-0)
The Hawks pick up a few more wins and likely will win again this week heading into sections.
This week: Thurs @ Grand Rapids

2. [2] Mahtomedi (16-6-1) (10-2)
The Zephyrs picked up a road win over Cathedral. Two AA games this week.
This week: Tues vs Mounds View, Sat @ Roseville

3. [6] Greenway (17-6) (14-4)
The Raiders have won their last 4 and leap over an Orono team who lost to Cathedral this week.
This week: Tues vs Duluth Marshall, Thurs vs Hibbing

4. [8] Cathedral (17-6) (15-6)
The Crusaders had a great week picking up a win over Orono and playing Mahtomedi close. If top seeds make it to state, they'd be set to have a rematch with Mahtomedi. They are team who has played many ranked teams.
This week: Tues vs Holy Family, Thurs @ Monticello

5. [3] Orono (14-7-1) (11-3)
The Spartans lose to HF and a Cathedral team who Greenway beat earlier this season. It's hard to see them seeded above Cathedral or Mahtomedi if they get through sections.
This week: Mon @ Waconia, Tues vs New Prague, Thurs vs Chaska

6. [4] Mound Westonka (17-6-1) (14-3-1)
The White Hawks lose to New Prague, then pick up another close win over Litchfield.
This week: Fri @ Waconia

7. [5] Delano (11-12) (10-7)
The Tigers are 2-4 in their last 6 games and the first of those 4 losses was to Litchfield; can they win this week at home?
This week: Tues vs Litchfield, Fri vs Hutchinson

8. [5] Virginia (14-10-1) (11-6-1)
The Blue Devils lost to Hermantown by 1 last week, and then lost to Johnson this week by 3.
This week: Tues vs Hibbing

9. [11] Warroad (12-11-1) (10-5)
The Warriors are 1-3 in their last 4 games, with the 3 losses being to AA teams and the win being 8-1 over EGF. They are benefitting here from what EGF has done this week.
This week: Tues vs Lake of the Woods

10. [12] East Grand Forks (12-10-2) (9-5-1)
The Green Wave pick up a big win over Alexandria. Can they beat TRF going into playoffs?
This week: Tues @ Thief River Falls

11. [10] Alexandria (14-10-1) (13-6-1)
The Cardinals have been up and down this season, but end up a win over Sartell. Will it be enough for the 2 seed in 6A?
This week: Idle

12. [9] Sartell-St Stephen (17-7) (16-2)
The Sabres pick up their second Class A loss of the season. Regardless of seeding, they should have to play Alexandria a third time to make the section final.
This week: Tues vs Monticello

13. [14] South St Paul (15-8 ) (9-2)
The Packers close out the season with 2 road games.
This week: Tues @ Simley, Sat @ Rochester John Marshall

14. [15] Minneapolis (13-10) (10-5)
The Novas pick up a nice section win in OT over Breck. They have played all of the top teams in the section and are 2-2 in those games, so they are not a team to take lightly.
This week: Tues @ St Paul Johnson

15. [13] Breck (7-15) (4-4)
The Mustangs lost a close one to Minneapolis.
This week: Tues vs St Cloud, Thurs vs St Paul Academy, Sat @ Totino-Grace

[16] Thief River Falls (12-9-2) (11-5)
The Prowlers could potentially be the top seed in the section if they can win in EGF on Tuesday.
This week: Tues @ East Grand Forks, Fri @ Bemidji

HSW nice work and thanks for doing this.

Just a small fix: EGF is 12-10-2.
They tied Roseau on Friday.
What is a Green Wave anyway?

I know I am totally being that guy, but there are/were a number of copy and paste mistakes from last week. As a prime example, Breck is now 7-15 and 5-6, and the schedule is part of the one from last week.

The Mustangs
This week: Tues vs Princeton, Fri @ Minneapolis
Of course, “the Mustangs” is probably a good summary of last week and their season overall

Minneapolis dumped the “Novas” name in 2016 when Dziedzic took over. They no longer have a nickname.
